i hd this problem coupkle years ago, issue was the same thing the brown plugs had come loose. i bypassed the plugs and soldered the right wire to its partner. only thing is im sure thats why i havent had a working rev counter since doing so.

Those plugs really shouldn't be loose at all. Even hanging down, you shouldn't be able to knock them apart with your foot. Given the potential to cause a total arse ache, as you've both found (and me too), it definitely worth trying to implement a proper long term fix, whether that be replacing the brown plugs with a better condition pair, replacing both half of the plugs with a brand new alternative, or just bodge it all together with tape :ph34r: Obviously splicing the wiring together permanently as Jim has done it another option, but less convenient if you ever need to remove the loom (but then how often do any of us ever need to do that?).

they just needed plugging in properly, and tying in their factory positions, nothing essentially wrong with having plugs in that location, as it gives a modularisation to the loom that would otherwise mean removing the connectors from the back of all of the components they plug into.
