There's nothing on the slam panel that relates to the ABS except for a couple of wires that connect to the power supply box you have already mentioned. In addition the ABS won't stop the car from starting. The loom is completely separate from the rest of the cars loom. You say you have fuel at the fuel rail, but do you defiantly have pressure there? If you unscrew the union and crank the engine, does fuel get pumped out? Your next check is that the injectors are firing. After a time cranking, the spark plugs should be damp with fuel. Do you know if you have Motronic or Jetronic management (what year is it and do you have a catalyst?). The only other box I can think of that is on the slam panel might be the relay box for a twin fan setup, but its unlikely you'd have that.

Wasn't the tachy relay box that goes under the battery was it?

Saying that though that was for phase 1 cant see a phase 1 having abs

Hi thanks for the reply it's a j reg I have pressure at the union and usually the power supply bolts to the slam panel mine has a bracket on the slam panel the it bolts to this and above the head light on the same bracket there was some thing els slide into it I am sure it's not the relay box for twin fans and it's no cat I am really stuck I have done loads of pugs now but not had one with abs I can't help thinking it is some thing to do with the missing bit what would stop all my lights on the dash stop working I have abs light wich comes on and goes off as it did I have the warning light on each gauge but the stop light and the rest in that row don't light up when I switch the ignition on

Hi thanks for your reply but no it wasn't like you say that's phs1 and hold fuel pump relay my fuel pump is working you can hear it start an stop .

I bought the car couple years ago 72k Miami blue J reg 1.9 gti none sunroof needing full respray been off the road since 2004 I am the 5th owner got the car home stuck bat on her she fired up straight away turned it off , sourced a 309 gti rear beam rebuilt nice and clean yellow and red stripped the old beam off found it had some strange compensator on which one had broke so I managed to find a brand new one new braided hoses stone guarded the whole boot floor and repainted and refit the beam looks mint started to strip the engine every thing came off my plan was drop engine repainted engine bay and brackets but change of circumstances and I need to sell the car so decided put her back together And get her up for sale and Sod's law she won't start :(

Was it one of these by any chance? You mentioned it slides in and that's what this does but on mine i've added it to fit a horn relay for my air compressor that takes a huge current.

Have you definitely reconnected everything into the power distribution box?

Fuses all ok?

HT leads connected correctly?

Hi again , ok got the car started drained the fuel out changed fuel filter new fuel start after couple of turns usually u can smell the fuel gone off can't believe it feel so daft but still have no dash lights or indicators but just noticed hazard switch is broke so that might solve the indicators which just leaves the dash lights which must be in the thing I removed from the bracket I mentioned earlier will keep u informed
