Recommended Posts

Terry1600

I cant seem to find a definite answer on which clutch cable I can use on my 89 1.6 with gti6 conversion

I will be using the 5 speed xsara box with a pull type clutch.

cheers in advance

Same as above, fits a dream after a quick adjustment.

I used a standard be1 cable with a mixture of the cable end bits from the 306/205 cables - no idea about the spacer everyone mentions because mine worked perfectly with a pull clutch, i've done an mi16 and a gti6 this way with no issues. The downside being that it does mean you cannot just buy an off the shelf cable in the event of failure - but generally its the cable itself that fails and you can swap the end parts over without having to buy another 306 cable.

The alternative, if you want an off the shelf solution, is to use a push type clutch from a bx16v - this method uses a standard 205 be3 cable, but you also need to swap to the corresponding push type clutch arm on the box - i've never used this method so cannot comment on it.

I run the push clutch scenario. Only issue to watch out for is that if you use the vts arm you need to modify it slightly to allow clearance on the box by removing some material or you can use a 1.6/1.9 arm and fork obviously. The rest is straight forward.

vts arm is the wrong angles, seeing as you need to swap the clutch cross-shaft/fork you might as well get the correct arm from the same donor vehicle.
