Corroded Block Repair?

Recommended Posts

mrfirepro

Following my engine build I now have 5 blocks that are cluttering up the place, one needs a thread repair which I can do, but the other 4 all have quite severe corrosion in the block wall and are very close to being perforated.

Is there any obvious repair for these areas, I was wondering if Ali welding would work.

Don't really want to scrap this many blocks, if they can be salvaged.

Any ideas?

the problem with that is that it will always be a weak point due to being a wet liner block, there's a high stress point there from being right next to the liner seat, and under where the head bolt places the side of the block under great tension.

better to get the threads repaired as that would be a strong repair done correctly.

Weigh them in, £15 a piece, sadly they are scrap.

Thanks Guy's

I felt that may be the answer, I wonder how they are all going to survive in the long run, with 4 out of 6 blocks being scrap.

maybe I can make tables out of them

Just for my reference, is this corrosion inevitable or is there anything that can be done to stop it happening with my new engine??

good quality coolant and regular maintenance, if unknown, bung a new heater matrix in there, and a new rad if that's dodgy.
