Getting My Rough Running When Hot 205 To Garage

Recommended Posts

davey205

I realize this is a bit like how longs a piece of string question but am I likely to damage the engine by driving it on what sounds like 3 cylinders rough sounding when hot but not trying to cut out and absolutely fine when at less than HOT temperatures. ( It only starts messing about when 2 dashes off the red gauge )

( I haven't been driving it the last 3 years as sorned but fancy blowing some dosh on it and enjoying it, driving a Saxo makes me appreciate how well built it actually is )

What engine, car is it?

Are you getting spark? as it sounds like it could be something breaking down, ignition amp, plugs, leads, coil, dizzy cap + rota arm.

I would go through it checking the basics give it a service if it has been sat for 3 years.

Have you changed the fuel since you took it off the road?

Standard 1600, have tried known good ignition amp, new plugs, leads known good coil, new dizzy and rotor arm already.... to me thats the obvious bits covered so will try to take it to my mechanic 12 mile drive he can take it for an MOT and try to sort it out.

And yep already serviced it new oil, filter actually serviced it once a year.

Re: the fuel, maybe that is the culprit, I put it away 3 years ago with a full tank then have been starting it every month or so and moving it about the driveway etc have topped up twice recently with a gerry can. If it is the fuel though why wouldn't it run rough right from the start ?
