Found My Petrol Leak - Fuel Level Sender Unit - Part No For Seal/gaske

Recommended Posts

ATK

Initially thought it was my fuel pump leaking as I recently had it replaced.

Looked further and when the tank is full to the brim petrol is coming up through the fuel level sender unit next to the pump and pissing over the side of the tank!

Anyone have a part no for the gasket/o-ring/seal between the Fuel level sender unit and the tank? Servicebox has not helped me.

Cheers

Don't think thats right, thats for the bottom of the tank is it not?

e.g.

1528 17 is the gasket under the fuel pump metal ring, which I've changed.
Need corresponding part no for the fuel sender unit but it's not on service box!

Its the same on them both if im reading the diagram properly?

Whats odd is on the list it says 2 seals for carb and diesel xu and only 1 seal for injection

Why would you need a gasket for the bottom of the tank, is there a hole in yours?

Yeah the two bottom seals are the same but they are not what I am after.

I don't need a bottom tank seal, I need a gasket for between the tank and the screw cap on top of the fuel guage sender unit.

Like the gasket that goes between the tank and the fuel pump ring (underneath this http://205gti-nfp.co.uk/?page_id=104 )

Hopefully that makes sense!

Unless there's not actually a gasket between tank and top of sender?!

This is the fitting on top of the sender, do these have gaskets/o rings underneath? If not how do they stop petrol from leaking out ? :S

Thats what i want to know :) is the screw cap enough to stop leaks or is there an o ring too?

Fuel pump definately has an o ring as Ive done that!

If both pump and guage sender have that same lock ring thing then surely they must have the same type of seal? Id just put a ring of tigerseal round the lip.

Never seen a leak here and all the sender is held down with is the threaded plastic part.

No O-Ring I could see

Fuel pump doesnt have the screw fitting (on a ph2 anyway), only the sender does. Sender diameter is smaller too isnt it?

Cheers farmer will investigate further tomoro perhaps it just needs tightening or perhaps screw fitting has cracked somehow.

Have a look.

But I replaced my sender unit a few months back and there was nothing under the plastic threaded part, and no leaks for me and brimmed it last night.

OK, tried to unscrew the existing one but couldn't unscrew it! Argh! Petrol definitely leaking up through this bit, though. Hmmmm!

Still can't understand how it seals without an o-ring/gasket mind, but farmer appears to be correct and this is backed up by servicebox- no gasket on this bit so therefore no part number!

Gentle tap round with a hammer and screwdriver gets it moving

Are you sure its leaking from the seal and not through itself? ie cracked

Sure it isn't the seal below that shows on service box?

That seal thats shown below the sender doesnt go at the bottom of the tank its just underneath to show what order things go in

Whats the purpose of the seal at the bottom of the diagram on servicebox then?

Sender unit does not appear to be cracked and the leak is pretty uniform?

Just told you the diagram is to show the order of parts not necessarily in the orientation you would find them fitted

Yeah I understand that but I'm still struggling to figure out where then 'fuel tank seal' is located.

The seal/o-ring between the Fuel Pump and securing ring is NOT part no 1528 19, it's a different seal/o-ring shown to the left on the exploded diagram of the fuel pump.

That's why I am struggling to figure out what part no/seal 1528 19 actually is, where it is located and what it does!

Is it the black rubber on the bottom like in this pic?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/peugeot-205-1-9-1-6-gti-1-1-1-4-xs-xe-gt-all-205-fuel-sender-unit-fits-all-/121096327448?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c31e75118

If so, even if this is missing I can't see how this will affect leaks, as it's at the bottom of the sender which is submerged in the tank anyway?

I have a new one of those senders in a box.

Will go have a look and see if there is anything on the bottom
