Can You Swap The Lock Out Of The Fuel Cap?

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

slight teething problem with the new 205, might result in the fuel cap getting forced with a screwdriver.... But before I do that, can the locks be swapped out in the caps, or would I end up having to spray a different cap the right colour?

Cheers

Not sure about swapping the lock itself, but you can swap the coloured part over easily between the petrol caps (the grey/black trim piece too)

You can't swap the lock, but you can dismantle it and all the pins fall out and it can be opened with any 205 key! You could swap the 6 pins and springs over, but it is exceptionally fiddlyAs Anthony says, you can unclip the plastic coloured part and reattach it to a different cap.post-3457-0-93117900-1401750918_thumb.jpgpost-3457-0-82731500-1401750919_thumb.jpgpost-3457-0-38459300-1401750920_thumb.jpg

Back from the dead the post.

When I bought a lock set it must have been from a base model as the fuel cap won't allow the gti coloured cap on due to the black surround not having the indents allowing the coloured gti cap on.

I managed the get the big white part off exposing the spring and lock.

Problem is the white surround must have been glued into position as it won't stay clipped down due to the big spring springing it back up.

We're they glued down??

I got past it by the coloured part clipped over the whole cap keeping the big white part and it's spring in its position.

I was going to just cut indents where the base model black ring didn't have but even the shape of the black ring is slightly different so that would have to be modded aswell.

It's turned out to be a right mission to be honest.

I have only done this as my passenger door lock was on a different key and I still had to change over take the boot lock to bits as the dust flap on my new lock set was broken.

I could have just tried fixing the passenger door lock to suite the one key ????

I siliconed lubed it while it was apart like the lock assembly and where plastic moves on plastic and wow it's so easy to use now. Nice and springy when locked and opened. ????
