Leaving A Car With No Coolant Whilst Working On It.

Just a quick question to put my mind at ease....

I'm going to be tacking the rust on the front of the car, and will remove the radiator to do a good job, but my concern is is it OK to leave the car in the garage without coolant?

I also start the car ever week or so, will no coolant cause problems? I only really start her up, let it run for a few mins, and that's it.

Thanks,

Dean

leaving without coolant is fine. starting it and not letting it run is not so good for an engine regardless if it's got coolant or not. if no coolant 5-10 sec's max ihmo

If no coolant in there then as above running it isn't really a good idea. If its going to be in bits for a while, then cranking it over with the fuel pump relay pulled out till you get oil pressure up once a month or so is as far as I'd go.

OK thanks, I think I'll be best just to crack on with it, and not run the engine then until it's all back together.

Cheers!
