Valve Damage After Skim

Recommended Posts

macaroni

I have just noticed that after I had my mi16 head skimmed, a couple of the valves have been very slightly damaged by the skimming process.

Can someone please look at this picture and let me know if they are scrap, or still usable?

Cheers,

Antony

I would use those. Just remove any sharp edges with a needle file. Would have been a better job to strip it before the skim, but hindsights a wonderful thing!

I'd be more concerned about the jump from the tip beyond the contact, which could give an uneven surface for the fire ring. There's also still alot of pitting evident, it may need to be taken further.

You want input? Stop dicking around. Strip the head and recondition it properly. What's the point of taking a head on/off and not checking it out thoroughly? Why spend money on time and parts on half a job?

is it only on 2 of the valves?

If so I think your head is wedge shaped (like cheese) due to a poor clamping method pre skim.

SORRY TO BE BEARER OF BAD NEWS... SO HERE'S A COOKIE:

Maybe it's one of the end cylinders and the head has been skimmed on an angle! ie bad setup by mill operator.
