A friend of mine has used them for a few years, most recently with a Sunbeam. He seems to think Troy knows what he's doing - at least when it comes to Duratecs.

Had mine done at Northampton after having a horrible map from somewhere else, impressed with troy and made the world of difference to my 306 with jenveys and a omex 600.

My mate who races a mi16 also uses them and was pleased with the results.

Youll be looking at 180-190, similar spec to HOOJ, which was 188 iirc.

I will update my build thread over the next couple of weeks as I have done a lot since the last update, will keep you all informed,

Petert, what would be a rough loss in power through the drivetrain 20% - 30 %?

NMS have a Superflow single roller. Transmission losses should be low with a single roller, because of minimal tyre deflection. One of my customer's 205s that went there for a magazine feature was reported to show approx 12bhp Tx loss, the Pug1off 205 videos/graphs show up to 70bhp loss though, so take your pick!

Also, and I know this is likely to sound very bitchy, but it's typical of the differences in this business, between what people say and what they actually do... A friend of mine recently showed me a link to their FB page, where they were showing off how much nicer looking their OMEX maps were than what was on a car previously; which reminded me of a scenario a couple years back. A lad with a Saxo near them, on KMS, had asked to buy a base map from me, because NMS wanted the car to arrive running and apparently wouldn't base map it themselves. I said no, because I don't sell basemaps, too many potential problems, you just can't guess from afar (even though I've seen dozens of similar spec TU engines). He was a nice lad though and pleaded with me, because he was totally stuck and had no practical way of bringing it to me. I took pity in the end and supplied a very basic map (FOC), only to make it run and dialled in some deliberate errors (inc approx 3 degrees retard on the CPS angle) and sent it to him. He went to NMS, they mapped it and a few months later he got in touch with me again, because he felt it wasn't really performing as he'd hoped. When he sent me a copy of their KMS map, I compared it to the basemap and attached is their ignition map (left) and my basemap (right). Note 3 degrees approx should be subtracted from the values to allow for the CPS error, which had not been checked and corrected. I'm yet to see an atmo 16v give it's best with only 20 degrees advance at 7500rpm and it looks like beyond 3.5krpm was left for another day.

I remember you mentioning this a while back Sandy, quite an impressive case of 'give the customer what he thinks he wants, not what he needs' by NMS :)

They seem popular in the Honda world, I used to own a type which had their sticker on the boot. quickly sold it after finding it would only do 25/26mpg (while trying to be conservative), maybe that was why...

Is this not the same every where, somebody shows there maps of, people disagree, claims of inaccurate rollers etc etc

This is my first car I will be having mapped so I wouldn't want to be 'given what I want'

I have spent thousnds of pounds on the engine so want the best out of it possible

I'm not interested in getting the work, I'm fully booked for some time ahead. What I was trying to do, was bring a bit of balance to this discussion, based on my evidence of their work (this is only one example I have) and my dislike of people in glasshouses throwing stones. The exampled OMEX map was poor and not my work, but equally without seeing that particular engine running, I couldn't say how good theirs was either.

I honestly hope your job gets the detailed attention you're hoping for and no doubt if they're aware of this discussion, it will probably help to ensure it does.

Well they do have quite a reputation for being very very good. Most mappers you can google and get good an bad things about them. Ive only ever heard good about them. The car is like a normal car to drive until you want to have a bit of fun with it. Also, Ford use them to design the maps for all of their new road going cars so they must be doing something right!

Track and Road certainly won't give you what you want.

They will give you what your car can do, and tell you any issues they identify and offer suggestions on resolving them.

Both the Steve's work incredibly hard at getting every car through their door to be the best it can be, and if it can't be what you expect they will tell you as soon as they know during the mapping session that and would have no problem calling it a day early so you can address some stuff to make your next visit more worthwhile.

I speak from much experience of many mapping sessions on my cars. and many friends.

3 things to remember when visiting them though:

1) You'll be making lots of tea.

2) Bring biscuits.

3) The kebab van gives vital sustenance at 2am.
