Engine Question.

Right, as i'm building up a 1.6 gti front suspension unit to fit to to my 1ltr XE its got me thinking about the engine.

engines fine, just really.. really slow.

John still has the 1.6 8v S2 rallye engine knockin' about from my old rallye and as i know the engines a good runner...

Is it possible to use that S2 engine, bolt on the inlet and carb from my XE, and scrounge a vtr gear box or something and just plonk it in and connect the plugs from the XE loom? keeping the original non injection fuel tank?

is there anything else i would need to swap over from my TU9?

cheers guys, my knowledge is a bit stretched when it comes to injection/carb conversions.

The inlet and carb won't fit :(

For a cheap fast but a bit dodgy engine I built a few vtr bottom end with 205 xs head, carb and inlet and ran it on the xs dizzy and coil

Compression is very high so needs super unleaded and a sympathetic foot at times!

The 950cc head would physically bolt on your s2 block but it'd be pretty s*it.. Tiny valves, lame cam, tiny ports, wrong ignition timing.

Put a wanted add up for a full xs engine, they're still knocking about and an easy and fun swap

that was my worry.

wanted an xs engine, skeptical about buying one that's f***ed though :\

same with the 1.3 S1 rallye engine. would love one of them with a carb set up, but dont want to do a mini gibbo and spend many pounds and hours building up a fubard engine. .

It's a fookin breeze reconditioning xs heads, the bottom ends are bomb proof

It's a pain changing a base model to injection but it's gotta be done for cheap power upgrades

yea, it was a pain in the bum hole changing the rallye to injection, so the XE is staying carb for sure.
