Temperature Gauge Intermitant Fault

Recommended Posts

simon5

well here is one for the boffins, my phase 2 1.6 205 GTI has a fault on the temp gauge. Sometimes it works and sometimes not . Can anyone point me to where the sender unit is . Also the sender unit on the bottom of the header tank may be an issue as under acceleration the low coolant light comes on, yes I have check the tank and there is plenty in albeit no min or max mark that I can see . I have taken the tank off and washed all the sludge out of it. Is this sensor still available .

any help

thanks Simon

Sensor's are NFP but I have one willing to sell it about pug price 60 delivered.

As for fault check the terminals.

Sensors are around the back of the engine not far from dizzy cap.

Check the wiring first, the brown multiplug above the gearbox can corrode and cause the temp gauge issue.

The low coolant light coming on under hard acceleration is probably a known problem where interference from the HT leads bleeds into the warning light circuit. Are your leads all held in the OE holder? If not try to sort that out first, if they are already secure you may need new leads.

cheers guys will get digging ,all the HT leads are in there holder, hopefully from what has been said it may be a wiring issue rather than a new part I will keep you posted

thanks Simon
