Car Transport - How Much And Who.

Hi Chaps.

 

 

How much does it cost to transport cars in UK?

 

I want to transport a Fiat 124 Spider from Hertfordshire to Harwich and put it on a boat to UK.

 

Of course I'm not allowed to drive it without tax, insurance MOT etc etc. Which is hassle.

 

I'm considering trailering it with my T16. But it might be better to have someone transport it to the port and then I drive it home in Denmark.

 

Does anyone have good experience with and transports and an idea of what it might cost?

You should be able to get under £1/mile, one way (i.e. you pay for the journey, not their return to starting point). I've moved a few cars in the last few years, usually posting on Shiply or Uship....put in your collection/delivery requirements and transporters bid for the job.

p.s. There's also a feedback system on both of those sites, so you can see how good they are. I could recommend a few, but to be honest they are only really cheap if they tie it in with other deliveries they have booked (e.g. they already have a job going in the other direction to return with after they've dropped your car off)...s o those websites are your best starting point.

book it in for an MOt. job done. Or put some random dutch plates on it to the ferry, then swap them for english plates over the ocean?

I used shiply to get my 205 to me, worked out really well and was picked up and delivered without many issues

Where is it in Hertfordshire as I have a trailer suitable and only live 20 mins from Harwich. Could make a day of it. Not really interested in making a profit just to cover my cost and a pub lunch.
