Part No. Wing/kit Grommets

Recommended Posts

dobboy

Anyone know the part number for the little black plug/grommet type things that sit in the holes of the wing, which the arches kit plugs into?

They push into the holes on the wing before the kit goes on.

(Not sure if they are 699231, they don't look like them)

Would be interested if there's a straight answer on this.

I tried to source these a few years ago when I removed my trim for refurb. Thought I'd found the part number on service box and ordered them up from my "local" dealer. Back then my nearest dealer was in South London, an annoying tube journey and long walk from where I worked in Central London at the time. Got there to pick up the parts and they were the wrong ones. We did a bit of digging and I made an onward journey south to the furthest end of the Northern Line to another dealer who apparently had what I needed. I was pleasantly surprised when I got the next dealer to spend a good 20 minutes with an old school parts guy who had worked there for years and had an unnerving ability to recall part numbers and details for just about everything from memory (must be related to Welshpug). He insisted on going to great lengths to help me in my quest for a handful of plastic grommets, even digging out and dusting down a massive fat parts book when his memory let him down. Unfortunately it was all for nothing and we never did solve the mystery of these parts.

I just didn't bother fitting them in the end. They aren't required IMO. The barbed plugs will still grip the arches fine without them. And if you put a bit of electrical tape over the panel with a small hole in it'll protect the paintwork when you push the plug through, which I suspect is part of the function of the OE grommets.

Go on to the 309 service box and they are on there, called an "insert" still sold packs of 50.

If you fail to see it will post number later.

Have you got a number for the corresponding barbed bit that pushes into that?

If you were interested, and had more than you needed, i'd take some of them off your hands to put mine back together with?

Stu, probably best you use service box to find the Pt No's as there are a few different parts used, runbber washers, two different plug types, serrated/locking washers etc.

And, as it's only £12.50 for a bag of the wee black things, you'd probably be best just getting a bag for yourself too.

You might get a fright when you see the price of all the little bits, if you have to buy Pugs "minimum order" of each item, that i had to buy. Think i was well over £100 and nearer £150, for not a lot of stuff.

Stu barbed bit for the rear arches is NLA individually.

6994 44 will get you a kit for one side of the car.

I found that the clips supplied as replacements did not fit with the original plastic insert, so had to fit withoit, on a 309.

I figured as much...

Is that part number right mate? Just searched and it pointed me towards fuel piping and such...

Ref the barbed plugs - if they become difficult to source just check the relevant dimensions from an old one and trawl eBay for suitable alternatives. Most manufacturers have used similar fittings both for internal and external trim. I know they have a funny shaped "head" to clip in to the trim, but IMO that's not the end of the world either (it's a nice to have but not necessarily the key to a perfect fit) and you could modify an alternative item.

Similar in topic to whats been mentioned already.

Ive got the arch kits, but, there seems to be waaay more in the kit than what you would actually need. so, there are the barbed type clips. And straight type clips that I assume the serrated locking washers push over once they are through the wing.

But which type goes where?

am I meant to be mixing and matching or using one or the other specifically?

Tim, there are certain places for each. Best refer to SBox illustration.

Send me a WhatApp Tim and I will take photos of what goes where as I have most individual clips anyway.

Just been doing trim fixing this weekend and struggled to find any useful resource, this was about the best I found

http://www.club205gti.fr/site/index.php/carrosserie/253-tuto-carrosserie-2.html

The only problem I found with the Pug kit was the metal fixings that go over the rivets are really tight and I broke two of the newly replace rivets, thankfully a friend had some spare (Thanks Tim)

Would a" how to" be any good as I'd be up for putting one together

I did also note that there are three holes at the rear of the wings but the plastic bushes only fit in one of the holes.......does anyone know if this is correct?

I'm sure each hole on the arch should have a plastic bush.

Yeah a "how to" may be useful, a "how to" to take the kit off might be handy for some too.
