Insurance Renewal

Recommended Posts

got my renewal through from Adrian Flux, although it had gone up a little I had made a few adjustments to the policy so thought fair enough. I did try getting a quote from Heritage but for some reason their website wouldn't give me a figure, didn't think anything of it, until 3 days later when their quote appeared in my inbox £80 cheaper!!

I got back to Adrian Flux and to their credit they matched the quote no problem, now I was preparing myself for an argument about excesses and mileage etc but no, they agreed no problem at all.

Just thought I would share that as they have a 7 day price match clause and they stuck to it, well worth a look if you are renewing, I am certainly happy with £80 in my back pocket!!!

From previous experiences I wouldn't give them my business even if they were cheaper.

I was with Flux for years, but in the end I got sick of the price creeping up year after year, and the way they quote one price and then charge extra for an agreed value even though it's part of the policy. Also the classic policy they put me on didn't use my NCB, so I lost it after a couple of years - which they didn't tell me until it was too late.

Last year I switched to Sky. They were £100 cheaper, and agreed to use my lack of claims in-lieu of the 1yr NCB they normally ask for.

Most insurers will try to price match. It always leaves a bad taste in my mouth when you go back to an insurer for the 2nd or 3rd time to see if they can beat a competitor's quote, and they do, because of course it shows they had scope to give a better price in the beginning but they chose not to.

As for Flux, I used them and HIC (now the same company) for years but I've had enough of Flux now. There's no particular stand-out reason for me not liking them, just a collection of minor gripes that took their toll over the years. They've not been competitive on my daily drivers for the last 2 years running so I've been using Direct Line of all people!

Adrian Flux , like so many other insurance companies wont take on Northern Irish business . If they do , the cost is astronomical . They are not the only company to adopt this attitude .

Direct line have always been very competeive with me for my daily drivers, and have handles all problems very well in my experience.

And I have used greenlight for the 205 over the last two years, always found them very helpful, no real dealings with them to speak of but so far so good!

I was with privilege on my daily driver, but swapped cars and the best they could do for the new car was £100 dearer, it was quite funny actually, I was wanting them to match the £285 I was quoted, they came back and said sorry we can't but we can do it for £395!! I was like WTF!! are you reading off a script you muppett!! so they are all much of a muchness, I've got no loyalty to any insurer so I will always look for the best deal, I was really surprised that AF bothered to match Heritage to be honest, I expected them to try and find one small detail that was different, or to say that it is over the 7 days to match the price, but they didn't!!

When I set up the policy they were a bit awkward to deal with and the constant pestering for confirmation of the mileage on the car really annoyed me, especially as I had sent it them straight away.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record; 2nd november 2009 was the date of my accident under flux's cover, 21st may 2014 is todays date, still not seen a single penny.

currently in the ombudsmans hands.

That is enough of a reason for anyone to stay well away from these surely! That is disgusting.

Sadly most folks don't look that far into the cheapest quote, having an accident and going through the 2 year thing trying to prove negligence on the 3rd party and get compensation is that last thing on many people's minds when they see the lowest quote is under £300.

I move on every year and manage to keep my insurance down year on year. Thats not just with the 205/309 but with my van and the Mrs mini.

Shop about, never stand still.

I remember my first car, an xs, was £989.00 for the year. The car only cost £1200. I know that doesn't sound much these days.

Totally agree, it's a complete rip off and we all know it, if it means anything then I used to be with Hastings, no complaints, but no accidents or claims so don't know anything else about them other than the paper it was written on, needed to swap when buying GTi but they couldn't match quote from Direct Line, but at least they were technically honest enough to say so.... fully comp with direct line costs me less than £200 a year for a 1.9 GTi, I still view this as a rip-off, but I wear it nonetheless.... I know your not supposed to slate any companies or providers on this forum, without good reason anyway, but I recommend you avoid Footman James at all costs, a bigger shower of pathetic c*nts I have never come across! pardon my English)))

Might be safer in terms of lower crime stats, but bet the roads are more dangerous with all those bloody farmers, horses and carts about :P

I must be one of the few people who has absolutely no recollection of what my first insurance premium cost me. And that's very unlike me as I usually have a good memory for sad facts like that. Quite annoying really as I would quite like to know what it cost me. I'm fairly certain it couldn't have been too astronomical as a} my budget would have been limited at the time, and b} I wouldn't have paid more than the cost of the car out of principal. It was a an old Astra, and I remember paying £750 for the car, even remember the reg D46 RBA (and now I've typed that I'm thinking it's a digit short  f*** sticks! Curse this getting old malarky :() but no idea of the insurance premium.

Mine isn't so I'm quite happy about my premium.

My dad pays less than 50 euros for his Austin Somerset, per year!

First premium on a Pug was back in 1992 and it was £750, back in the days when you could be a named driver on your dad's policy to keep costs down!

I sold that Pug in 1997, then saw it in 2003 in a right state on a street in Leeds, was tempted to knock on the house door and ask to buy it, I didn't and still regret that!

F543 BKH if I remember rightly

Happy days!

My mate told me a similar thing when I asked if he'd used flux and informed me of someone else he knew who had trouble with them repairing a custom paint job even though it was insured with it, so always dodged them since. I'm paying 1600 for mine this year lol but that's due to my driving history, job and city centre location.

Should drop drastically next year tho (1 less claim, moving to quieter area, changing jobs and 1 year extra ncb)

I quite like green light but unfortunately I used my NCB on the new work van, they would've have covered me for the same price but wouldn't add a driver.

I have gone with Peter best in the end who were tricky to get hold of but well worth it at £156 for the year, limited mileage of course. They also covered my mrs on the same policy...............thinking about it, I must be mental!!!! Hahahaha!!
