Trailing Arm Shaft Insertion Depth

Recommended Posts

chipstick

Pressing in some trailing arm hafts at the moment. What would people advise, depth wise for the recess in the trailing arm to the base of the shaft?

The foam ring for the ARB flag is 4.8mm (probably 5mm with my verniers!) so allowing for some compression would a recess of 3mm be advisable?

Oddly don't read anything about if in any FAQ's I read. I'd prefer clarification rather than winging it and then reading later I did it differently and kicking myself.

2mm is the specified depth.

I recently fitted a pair of new shafts and left a 2mm recess . I found a big washer of that thickness and taped it in place in the trailing arm hole so when I pressed the shafts in they hit it .

I have seen beams with no recess at all up to a max of about 2mm .As you say there is plenty of give in the foam seal .
