Track Car - No V5

I'm about to buy a 205 track car but there is no V5, I do know the seller, and I'm confident there is nothing really amiss, where is best to go from here? I intend to convert the car for road rallying so obviously the car will need to be road legal when finished. As far as I know I'll need to apply to the DVLA for a new V5 and declare SORN in the meantime, they'll then write to the last registered owner (who isn't the current seller because he has never had the V5) to confirm he is no longer the owner, this could take weeks, what happens if there is no response from the last legal owner? anyone had similar experiences or advice?

The last owner on the log book will receive a fine for not notifying dvla and you will have to pay £25 for a new one. They don't need a response from the last owner to issue you a new one.

Send the fee and the form and they'll send you a log book, the DVLA don't give a s*it who's got the v5

When you register it make sure you sorn it as soon as the log book comes. My neighbour had a stolen scooter recovered in september and in january the company that took it sent the logbook off as scrapped and my neighbour has just got a summons for keeping a vehicle untaxed and not insured. He wont get done because he can prove all the paperwork but he has got to court to do it they wont do it by letter or over the phone, bloody ridiculous.

go to the post office and ask for a v62 , fill in and send away with 25 knickers after about 4 week you will receive a new v5
