Had My Car Tuned And Rolling Roaded Today...

Recommended Posts

Had car rolling roaded today at Tommys in Abercynon. Made 117.9bhp and 96 at the wheel and was given a clean bill of health. Not bad for a 23 year old car!

Good to get a clean bill of health. Did they reckon that 10% down on power was reasonable for its age/miles?

Not bad if its a 1.6.

its a 1.9.

Dont mind being 10 down from new, as its running great. Would have thought ten down after 23yrs and 182k miles was pretty good, Tommy seemed to think so and was suprised.

As I've found before it's now always about the power it makes but how it delivers it and drives.

Good news that it's running well :)

Presumably on a different set of rollers, and different conditions. Come on now WP, you know better than to spark a debate like this! :P With that in mind, I personally wouldn't worry much about a guestimated +/- 10bhp at the fly on a 1.9.

I've had my 405 on this RR and the one my 205 was RR'd on, it made 160 bhp on both.

My 205 initially made 122 bhp on Jetronic setup by myself without any emissions gear or ignition timing, then I fitted Motronic and took it to the same RR, made 132 bhp.

117 is very poor IMO, especially after £120!!

Although I'd advise not to get too much caught up in figures, I find myself doing it!

I think for a 180k engine the figure is very good; also many parameters can have an effect from tyre pressures to atmosheric conditions etc.

If yours made 122bhp on Jetronic that's only 5bhp more than ATK's one and any of the above parameters can account for that IMHO.

That 122 was without spending £120 dont forget, and its not a low miler itself, 140k iirc.

5 either way i'd let go, but 13?

It's only worth arguing if you get it on a proper engine dyno.

Enjoy it and don't worry

Main thing for me was knowing it's running as it should, pulls well, power is where it should be in the right places, and feels great. Never chased figures, but thought that given the age of the car and the miles being 10bhp below brand new was pretty good going IMO, and certainly not very poor.

Either way - it's running great, feels good so ultimately, f*** the figures and enjoy the ride!

This for me is exactly the attitude To take because...if it was all about power we would buy a newer car with less character

You should be very happy with how the cars come together! Now get out on some local roads and use all that 117.9bhp and most importantly ENJOY it

Agreed, my daily Golf R32 has 246bhp and is obviously quicker, but I find myself using my little old 205 more and more, funny how these cars are so addictive and enjoyable!

Pump your tyres up next time for 5bhp more :).

As long as it runs how you like it the go enjoy!

Anyway these cars are all about handling, not just power so have fun and don't worry about what others have said!

I wouldn't be fussed about a 10bhp difference over book figure at all, every engine and dyno is different and I'd be sceptical over manufacturer BHP claims anyway. Presumably the AFR readout is sound and the torque output appears very healthy, I'd be very happy with that graph on a 180k 25 year old engine. If you want more BHP go back on a cold day with your tyres pumped up. ;)

Didn't realise it was a bhp competition. Figures are for pub talk anyway!

Get out on those twistys and enjoy it :)
