New Oe Style Mats Arrived Today From Ebay France!

Recommended Posts

ATK

Wanted a set of original style mats like I saw in a photo Anthony posted up before. Closed I could find were a set from a user called automobilia.fr on Ebay France.

I got them to take off the '205' on the mats on the listing and just retain the GTI so they are close to the originals. I know the originals didn't have a heel pad on the drivers side AFAIK but decided to keep the heel pad to help with wear and tear.

Mats are excellent quality, thick andIMAG1560.jpg well made, and took 3 weeks from order to arrival - that's including altering to spec. Pretty reasonable at £40 plus shipping!

That's not too bad actually price wise, and they certainly look the part - much better without the "205" IMO.

Heel pad is a good shout too, especially a subtle looking one like that, as one set of my original ones have almost worn through on the heel area now :(

Yep pretty pleased to be honest! I could have gone for the logo in green but decided to keep with the red. The new gearstick gaiter and mats have finished the interior off nicely :)

did think about green logo but went for red in keeping with badges on wheel mudflaps etc

after using the mats all weekend I have noticed they are quite short pile and show up dust dirt and marks very easily! Just to be aware if you do decide to buy!

They are exact same as the ones I bought. I kept the 205 though :)

I agree they won't wear as well as the originals but they are a good replacement and certainly look the part.

Guys, I produced and sell OEM spec mats for mk1 Golfs over on the owners club. It started off as me using my tired looking genuine mats for templates and getting a batch made.

If anyone can supply me a template or their old mats (must be a realy good fit) I can get these set up with my supplier. I spec the thickest pile carpet and can opt with with/without heel pad. Thick carpet means no embroidery though, the needles can pass through the stock!

Blacks the best quality/thickness carpet stock but I've also done blue, cream, red, grey and brown mats for the golfs. Piping colours can be changed too.

I've been selling the mk1 mats for £35 plus post (comes in at £42.99). If anyone wants to supply a template or old mats I'd do a reduced rate in their new mats plus return the old.

I'll post some pics and a link to the mats I sell asap.

Very cool idea and a great price, I'd pick up a set even though I've only just got new ones!

Notice you say no embroidery, but are you able to have a logo on it eg in felt or printed

Just tried to edit my first post and managed to post twice! Lol. Hard to see what I'm doing on the phone! :)

The pile is very deep on the stock so I don't imagine felt or print would stay on long at all. If there's a good number of people interested I could spec a lower pile and look into costings on embroidery. The mk1 mats have been sold on single sets/one-off basis so it hasn't been viable to embroider, I've just gone for the thickest carpet instead.

I would certainly be interested in this, I haven't seen any good grey mats to suit my grey interior that I would be happy with as yet.

Sounds good, if you were closer you could borrow one of my OE mats. Keep us posted on this though. Would you use felt for the GTi letters?

It's likely that I'd only be able to do plain mats with no logo unless there's a good number of people interested. I can't replicate the one's ATK has posted, my supplier embroiders/stitches details into the mats and wouldn't be able to do something that big in stitch.

Here are some pics of what I'm producing for Mk1 Golfs, they're a really deep pile stock with granulated rubber backing. I've sold a lot now through the Mk1 Golf owners club forum and have had very positive feedback on them.

Sorry to ATK for taking the thread off topic! I'll be making some for my 205 soon and can post a new F/S thread when they're done and in the car.

In the mean time if anyone has an old set of really good fitting mats that they can send for me to take a template off, or could draw around their mats onto paper that would speed things along. :)
