Gti6 Randomly Cutting Out.

Recommended Posts

Roon

I really really need help as I'm close to selling this.

My problem since putting it back on the road.

Driving along normally and it randomly cuts out no change in throttle or gears etc consistent and cuts out. Car will NOT bump itself at all say 2nd gear 20 mph bring the clutch up... Nothing. This can all be at speeds of 20-30-40-50

Crusing at motorway speeds 65-75. Again it's worst moment was 8 times in around 6 miles. Consistent 65 mph cut out repeat. Cut out. Repeat.

Stop turn the ignition fully off and it starts perfectly on the key. Continue and again it is a gamble wether it will cut out or be fine. It is totally random no pattern.

Now under full throttle it seems particular in 3rd around 5k it violently cuts out. Repeat above fine.

The Ecu/engine light always comes on in the top right.

It has done It off late think 3 times to memory cut out whilst idling. No touch of throttle just waiting at a red light. But as said this is rare but fear getting more common.

Now tonight was just heart renching. Out of a roundabout had driven 8 miles engine and fluids all warm so open it up. 2nd gear misfires hard at around 4-6 light comes up I keep my foot in it 'patience worn thin' it clears doesn't cut out.

I change to 3rd hit about 4k and it misses silly hard light on and a almighty explosion soot oil s*it out of the rear but then seems to rev clear by which point I've changed to 5th.

Next roundabout rev it in 3rd to around 7k. Fine pulls hard perfect. Just before home cuts out 4 times in 2nd of which was mixed driving.

Engine has stage 1 peterT cams a ttv flywheel and light pulley and richW's map to suit.

RichW said the only thing coming up on computer was a 'lazy' 02 sensor.

I've had 4 different Ecu's including this mapped one.

I leave for the ring in 2 weeks today. But I have no confidence in the car making it.

I need help ideas things to try as were just out of ideas.

Sorry about the essay guys

Paul.

Is it standard wiring & Ecu or stand-alone ?

Is it an instant cut out, ie like no ignition, or a.' Softer' one like it could be an interruption in fuel supply (fuel.pump, wiring, relay etc)?

Standard wiring and Ecu just with a map to suit cams. But it did this before with other Ecu's.

It's instant cut out you can press the throttle and it makes a growl like noise. And up comes the light at the exact moment it cuts out. But as said sometimes it sorta misses flicks on and off and I still have power.

I removed the swirl pot and bosch 044 pump and for a time it worked perfect but now it's back to how it was.

Is the tdc sensor secure

Yeah everything is secure. Could it be the fuel pump totally giving up? I just don't understand the symptoms

Possible break in the loom or a dicky injection relay could cause symptoms like this.

Leave it idling and give everything under the engine bay a good wiggle / shake and see if you can make it cut out.

Did you wire the diagnostic DL16 plug into the loom when you (or whoever) did it? If so, you could get PP2000 / Lexia on it to see the live data.

Wire up some 12V light bulbs in parallel with ECU feed, coil live, injector live and fuel pump live and see which goes out when the car cuts out.

Have you got the fuel pressure back at the rail?

Loom was done before he bought the car so no diag.

Cheers guys that's some great ideas going to get down there later tonight and try what we can out.

Could the fuel pressure regulator do this? It was swapped from my setup to spikey's along with swirl pot fuel pump and it looks like it has seen better days?

And other ideas or possibilities?

Did the fittings turn up? as said you need pressure in the rail, without it in theory it can either be the Reg or Pump
