Tu9 4 Speed To 5 Speed?

Recommended Posts

Lowercase

Hey guys, school boy question here but...

I have a wee little TU9 1.0 pudding in my XE.

Its slow yes, but im actually a huge fan of that little engine. lots of character.

it does have a 4 speed gear box on it at the moment which also, lots of character, but i keep trying to put it in 5th!

got me thinking, am i able to fit a 5 speed box to my little TU9? surely a 5th gear could only improve things?

An xs box would be fantastic

106 s1 Rallye box would also be good

The Saxo 1.4 Furio box isn't a million miles off the ratio of a 205 xs box, cheap and generally lower miles aswell

Saxo and 106 boxes will need a few minor bits swapping over but nothing drastic

I thought 205 drives shafts didn't fit fully into a 106/saxo gearbox due to the diff being different? Meaning you'd have to swap a 205 MA box diff into the newer item to make the swap work?

Yep, anything with the uprated diff, they have bigger planet gears, much like the difference from 205 be box to an xu10 or xud turbo gearbox

My 5 pence worth - XS would be ideal but not too common now and you can forget finding a decent S1 106 rallye box. Don't get a diesel box or 5th might be too long to make good use of.

i have an MR2 these days as a daily, but i still have the 205 chilling on my folks driveway - can't bear to part with my little Chug!

So when my new job gets going and i've got some cash behind me again im going to look into getting it insured as well so i can keep him on the road.

would still like to keep building him up to the spec i wanted. :D
