Anything from 600 to 2k , depending on what you want/how much prep you do/trims off or on etc

Quick mask up and paint I'd say 700

If your only getting outside done it doesn't make much odds. Would give you a better job though as no overspray etc can be seen easily.

I'd budget for 700 and try get a few prices, see a previous job etc.

It depends what you mean by you intend to do as much work as possible yourself tbh.

It's worth noting, from posts i've seen on a few other forums, that some bodyshops are not taking on work / cars that have been "pre-prepared" by the owner as they cannot guarantee the quality of the preparation work before the paintwork they're being asked to take on. By prep work I mean people who have stripped the car back, done some of the bodywork themselves, such as body filler, etc. Only exception seems to be if they know the person who has done the prep work.

Expect to get a variation in price dependent on where in the UK you are. Prices further north tend to be less expensive than those for bodyshops based down south.

minefield! unless a friend is doing it let them do all the paint prep or they'll only blame that for any blemishes, problems etc..going to cost you 2k plus for a decent job..minimum

I got quoted £4000 + VAT three weeks ago to respray the outside of mine, that didn't include the engine bay. The car is an empty shell with no trim whatsoever, no glass, nothing! There's a few marks on the car but nothing a PDR guy can't get out in an hour or two (seeing as he can get to the back of them so easily).

Having said all that £4000 is a drop in the ocean compared to my wedding next week!

Expect an "unfinished project" in the For Sale section very soon folks! :-)

Oh before anyone thinks it, I've got no intention of paying £4800 to have my car repainted.

I paid £3000 to have the whole car bare metalled then all welding done then painted. That includes the underside stone chipped and wax oiled.

I looked into it and went with a cheap, but recommended chap near me.

i paid £1200 cash and it was one of the worst decisions i've made with the car. very very poor job done :(

its an absolute minefield,

people you know won't rip you off are the people to go for, it may cost a little more, but nothing worse than being stung :(

I'm paying £2,000 cash to a guy who's done good work for me before. Car will be stripped and I'm priming the engine bay, door and boot shuts and inside bonnet, doors and tailgate.

Price includes welding up the rust patch on the N/S inner wing and taking out all dings plus welding the small hole at the top of the rear panel (going with no trim panel).

And a colour change to laser green.

My painter was strict in that no exterior panels are to be touched as he wants to be able to see any imperfections before he starts.

All panels to stay attached - he'll take off and refit doors, bonnet and tailgate during the repaint.

After spraying my own car Id say around £1500-£2000 is about right for a reasonable respray. I spent around 40hours preping and spraying with some help and my car was already bare. I know with some more tooling and a proper both in theory things would of been easier but it does make you appreciate how much work/man hours is involved in spraying. If you want utter perfection then I'd expect more towards £2.5-3k

I got mine done at the same place (and same price) as timoth123, got quotes varied from £4,800 - £1,200, am very pleased with the results for the £3000.

Not very relevant to the pound. Here in OZ a good paint job with no trim or bumper removal/refit buy the painter a bare metal spray.

9500$

4650Pounds

I recently had mine resprayed in its original miami blue colour. The exterior and engine bay was done.

It cost 2k. That was with me doing all the stripping and having the engine bay sand blasted.

It's expensive if done properly. They spent 60+ hours on the prep work. Take into account materials and general workshop running costs, he should of been closer to 3k.

Aim between 1.5k - 3k depending on quality of finished job.

Ask to see examples of their previous work too.

Did the prep myself, provided them with a rolling shell. also had a bit of welding done included in the price.

Painted inside and out (not including underfloor) for £850 ish)

edit I read in a mag don't add anything to the body i.e. filler primer etc.

Just clean (thinners and wet n dry grade 600 all over.

Took me months to get mine ready. saved me about a grand I reckon.

Snap, don't always trust recommendations and make sure you see more than one example of their work. One of my old cars was ruined by a very poor £1500 respray.

From what I see these day's you want to see something around 18 to 24 months old as the paint tends to harden or something and shows all the imperfections under the paint, I;ve even had car's delivered to me with a nice paint job for restoration and a few months down the line this happens which makes repair twice as hard

Very true, the paint can sink and settle into filler at a different rate to the paint on metal.

There's a lot of good info on paint/paint prep on http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/spray-painting.htm if anyone is thinking of doing their own prep or paint.
