Phase 1 Gti-6 Wire Identification

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Still getting through the wiring side of things, come across a few issues

Firstly, after the wires from the sensors run through the bulkhead towards the fusebox, a number of them (for the gauges i assume) turn straight into the dash and along to the clocks. Obviously, as Peugeot so helpfully decided to use whatever colour wire they fancied at the time, I dont have a way of telling which gauge is controlled by which wire. (aside from the number on the wire at the gauge end)

Does anyone know of a method of finding out? other than removing (and probably breaking in the process) the dash / instrument cluster that is

The second problem is the reverse switch. this is blatantly on the top of the gearbox next to the clutch lever, however, on my already converted phase 2 loom, the 9 pin 205 plug end has wires 52, and 53 (reverse lights) running to a totally different plug (gti6 sealed type) that plugs into a sensor behind the starter motor, on the block.

Ive looked at the sensor identification diagram and it seems this might be oil pressure?! or potentially oil level?! either rate this leaves me very puzzled. if anyone could shed some light as to what thats about that would be great. I assume i should forget about this plug and wire a plug onto the switch for the reverse lights then run it to 52, and 53 on my phase 1 loom, but what is this other plug for? and why was it wired that way when the last bloke did it?

any help much appreciated,

Cheers,

Matt

If i earthed a small battery to the shell and put each wire on the positive side, would this make the gauges move on the other end? as you can tell i am a little bit special with electrics so any help much appreciated

Cheers,

Matt

Leave the sensors/dash until last. Get it running, then flash the 205 dash wires to earth one at a time and see what moves/appears on the dash.

I fitted all the 205 sensors to mine and all my dash works spot on, but i did a little mod here and there to do to make it all work.

PM me if you need any info.

Ps from memory there is a spare black plug not used around the throttle area, and the correct plug (which you'll likely need to cut off and replace with female spades) is the reverse light.

You won't see any movement on the wire that goes to rev counter if you flash it to earth.

You'd probably be able to find all the sensor wire id's if you get the main 3 or 4 wires connected up and a battery in and ignition on. In fact I think the dash would light up if you fitted the battery temporarily and you could flash them to see what wire is what.
