Mi16 Coolant Pipes Routing

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, just done a quick search on this and can't find an answer- apologies if it has been discussed before.

At the moment I've got the cooling system on my mi16 set up the same as this diagram:

however, the heater matrix has been removed so I have joined the pipes gong to/from the matrix to each other (in essence the pipe now runs straight between the thermostat housing and the distribution block).

Question is, as there's no matrix, could I remove these pipes completely and blank them off at the thermostat housing and water distribution block?

preferably not as there wont be any flow of coolant until the thermostat opened.

That is indeed how I run mine, with no heater matrix. All coolant flows through the thermostat.

Except I notice you have one small tube missing, which would allow coolant to bypass the thermostat. It runs from the bleed screw in the thermostat housing back to the header tank.

Cheers guys- bloody obvious there'd be no cold coolant route without it.

The temp had always been spot on so I'll leave as is...I was only being a bit tarty wanting to tidy up the engine bay anyway!
