Long Top Spindle. Do I Have It?

Hey Guys,

 

Im in the market for new eccentric top mounts

 

Ive just had my Bilsteins serviced and need new top mounts as the ones I had were back yard junk.

 

After a small amount of searching, Im lead to believe I need to make sure my inserts have long top spindles in order to fit into the eccentric top mounts with enough length for the top nut.

 

Can anyone tell me what length they need to be?

 

I have photos but cannot load them as they are too big.

 

Also, if anyone can help me work out what I actually have? Where are the part numbers? THere are numbers on the insert. They read

 

3302v36 0545H0 Bear in mind, I have just had them re valved to suit 200 lb. springs. Apparently these are PTS Tarmac items.

More searching.

 

Looks like I have short type top mounts.

 

Are these the long ones?

 

If mine are the shorter version. Are there eccentric to mounts available for these?

OK,

 

In that case. What are my options for an Eccentric top mount? My top Nut seems to be designed to go into a rose joint type setup. As in the nut acts as a sleeve?

KAD make topmounts which work with the shorter thread on avo shocks so they should work with yours.

 

Drop them an email, they seem quite helpful.

Yep, sleeved nuts(which aren't ideal) or get the insert modded

Same as compbrake used to make (or maybe still do) - threaded sleeved nuts.

By the looks of it you could get your insert modified easily enough, the height of the insert from the largest diameter to the tip of the thread looks the same but has the intermediate larger diameter section.

 

 

I believe that's exactly what the Satchell Engineering guys did for Test Stunt monkey Dean's car:

If you have a lathe, I guess so, appears they have turned down the top of the shaft to a nominal diameter then tapped to suit.

My top spindle is even shorter than all of these.

 

Anyone seen these that short? Ive only put the top sleeve nut on a few turns to show whats what.

 

The top spring pan is very close to the top mount.

That looks fine with those sleeve nuts.

 

close clearance is normal between spring pan and top mount, gives you as much spring travel with low ride heights

Ok Great.

 

Mei, did you see my other thread? Ive added loads of photos to try and get to the bottom of my problem. I think its springs..
