Anyone Replaced Gear Gaiter With A New One?

Recommended Posts

Got a new gaiter coming from topgaiters on ebay. If so any guides for replacing the old gaiter? Does the gear knob have to come off?

I managed to just yank mine off, it's elasticated (well slightly) at the top so should just pull off with a bit of persuasion. Didn't want to take the knob off as I'd never done it before and didn't want to risk breaking it due to the incredibly stupid prices they're going for now

I did mine at xmas using a new Topgaiters boot. It's a really nice fit - exactly the same size and shape as the original.

I already had the gear knob off so I don't know if you could do it without removing it or not. Fitting the new boot is easy, the original is just stapled to the plastic trim with a plastic ring to hold it in place (not the easiest to describe, but it's obvious when you see it). All you need to do is take the staples out and swap the boots over. I didn't have a strong enough stapler to go through the leather and two layers of plastic though, so I ended up putting a couple of small screws in.

No need to remove the gear knob. There is a bit of elasticity in the gaiter opening. Or use some vaseline and the gaiter should slide in easier.

I glued mine, as I didn't have a staple gun!

We've got an industrial stapler at work so I just used that. Longest job was getting the old staples out.

I'm very impressed! A rare eBay bargain if you ask me.

No mate. Just spent ages cleaning it. Then dying it. Came up pretty good. Recommend it to everyone to give their carpet a scrub!!!

I re-fitted mine with a common office stapler and it was spot on. These are great value and the leather is excellent quality too.
