Xsara Power Steering Pipe Route

Recommended Posts

shooter mcgavin

Managed to get round to fitting the power steering set up to my xsara conversation but I'm struggling to see how the rubber return hose is routed safely from the rack to the end of the metal cooler pipe.

Finding a photo is proving much harder than it should be.

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

If you're talking about the low pressure return side, you'll likely find it much easier to route the pipework if you cut down the metal pipe that comes off the rack to a shorter size with less bends as it doesn't fit very well (in my opinion anyway) as the standard pipe is shaped.

(I'm assuming that the shape of the pipes is the same on Phase 1 and Phase 2 - it's been a while since I've seen the P2 pipework)

How to run the pipe depends on where you've mounted the reservoir. On mine, I've done away with the cooling loop completely and just run the rubber pipe under the upper engine mount and into the 306 style reservoir that I've mounted where the jack originally sat, but if you're still running the cooling loop under the passenger footwell and a 205 style reservoir near the battery then you can route the LP pipe along the subframe, into the cooling loop, and then up sort of following the route of the clutch cable - this is vaguely as it was on the original 205 PAS setup.

The high pressure pipe can only really route one way, the same as it did on the Xsara - from the pump, around the front of the engine, onto the sump, then the front of the subframe and into the rack (again, assuming P1 and P2 are the same in that regard)

Yeah sorry low pressure rubber hose. I'm doing away with the cooling loop and mounting the bottle where the jack goes.

was thinking about just running a hose from the mete lipped on the rack to the bottle but want to keep it away from gear linkage and manifold.

High pressure is sorted. That 1 was easy
