Is the ignition barrel east to do then, mine was removed when the car was taken away and now only has some loose wires hanging there?

If you take off the lower cowelling there are two metal tabs which hold the barrel into the column. If you put the key in the ignition, push on the tabs with the end of a screwdriver or similar, and then turn the ignition key (cant now remember if it's to the first or second position), the tabs pop in. The barrel then just slides out and you feed the cable through. To refit, you just push it in and the tabs will locate it in place.

£150 to get it out of the pound. Nothing like kicking a man when he's down.

Good news on getting the car back reasonably unharmed. I have a steering column in grey and the wiring, don't head through to Edinburgh much nowadays but could work out some way to get the bits to you.
