Scrap Or Repairable

Recommended Posts

Just stripped my spare rear beam what's peoples thoughts on the condition of the shafts? Looks as if the beams shot I get the impression someone has replaced the bearing in it at some point as it's worn thin on one edge. Not sure how clear photos are. Looking to build up a beam using the parts of my gti6 axle which I'm yet to strip so I expect I'm going to have one large pile of scrap when I do :/

If you can feel the marks then they are shot.

Its 100% repairable. Fit new bearings and shafts and you are away. The usual cause of the shafts becoming indented as your picture shows is poor fitting of the bearings which crimps the outer case against the inner cage. This means the inner cage is pinched and cannot freely rotate as it should. The main thing is your main cross tube is OK and you can use it again. The shafts and bearings are readily available.

If you can see in the photo of the beam the right hand side looks as if it has worn thin. I think ill strip apart the 1.6 axles I've got and see what the beams are like on them. Can I use the 306 rear arms and shafts if they're any good with the 205 beam or are they different?

Looking again it looks like someone has sleeved that end of the beam tube. You'd need to clean it down and see what is what once the bearing is removed.
