Andygon Back In Gti Ownership

Recommended Posts

ANDYGON

Hi all,

i bit the bullet after years of not owning and brought myself a 205Gti-6. A few keen eyes will have seen it advertised on ebay.

a brief bit of my ownership history

first car-seat ibiza (mk1)

a couple of 306 Td's (one that was body kitted to the max  )

then on to what i call the one that changed it all for me - a red Gti 1.6 that i sold on to Dr Suess on here. how is it going/ gone?

then a miami blue shell which Maxi converted to Mi 16v - sold to a chap off here too.

then a 5 door 309 Gti 16v- a great sleeper car when i put non Gti bumpers and GLD badges on. - ithink it sold on to be broken.

so that was it for a period of about 5 years, always wanted one but the Mrs and other things like having a daughter ;) kinda veto'd the idea, until finally....... i manned up!!!

So!! how is it? i love it!! its fast, its loud!! and the Mrs hates it!!

I picked it up from the midlands and drove it back for the 3-4 hours, didn't miss a beat! and the smile on my face was hurting my cheeks! even managed a spirited detour with a new scooby on a signed diversion!

pulls better than anything i remember owning in the past and still has that smell that all Gti's seem to have.

plans for it----

It seems to run a little hotter that i'd like when stationary / low speed so a new rad will be going in very soon plus a second fan for a bit more flow. (i get paranoid over this)

horn needs looking at.

small leak from a drive shaft seal.

wire up / source oil pressure adaptor and temp gauge.

Mot in July

I look forward to being part of the forum again and attending south meets!

Thanks

Andy

Welcome back :)

Dr Seuss moved on to Honda Civics IIRC, I don't remember what he did with his 205.

Welcome back, the name rings a bell, we both joined here the same year. Seems like yesterday

Dr Suess rings a bell too! funny how people come and go.

Good luck with the new acquisition, why so long to man up??

Certainly doesn't seem like 8 years ago!

I remember him coming round in a Honda and he was being very derogatory about French reliability then when we looked at his Honda something had stopped working with hilariously comic timing.

is it standard ride height at the rear?

I have a set of eibach springs in the garage, was wondering if it looked okay/handled alright being standard height at the back but lowered at the front?

Any side on pictures please? mines graphite grey too, so would be super helpful!

Cheers

John

Hey Andy, good to see you around here still. I bought your old red 1.6. but sadly G553 GON isn't with us anymore. I enjoyed a good 6 years in it, took it to the ring, stuck a 2.1 motor in it and generally had a great time with it but in the end moved on to a 'charged 306 and sadly got more in parts than I ever would whole so...it's a 205 BBQ which i still bloody well have to SORN every year :)...

Good to see your back Andy, new car looks good.

Anyone up for a South meet? I'm sure with plenty of planning it could happen.

Ah i was wrong. Thanks for that doof, always good to see where they end up, glad you enjoyed it!

John- the rear is standard height and front lowered it on my list of jobs to get round too, although had it in the air today and it looked rather rusty!

Fixed the horn and fitted a new rad while i was there!

Hey Alastair! good to see you your still about. is the list in your signature correct? your still in possession of a 205 too? :)

Deffo up for a south meet! i cant really come back from no where and start organizing things just yet i feel. Someone do something!! ;):D

We haven't had a south meet for years sadly :(

Maybe you're the someone who needs to do something in order for it to actually happen ;)

Just leave it a month or two though and I might actually have a working 205 to take to a meet.
