Coaxials Vs. Components - Doors

Recommended Posts

Stu

Hi all,

I have searched, but couldn't find a definitive answer as it is quite a subjective topic.

Lets say you've got £30-50 to spend on a pair of front speakers, having already got a mid-range HU what would you buy?

Non amplified, driven from the HU only. Don't want to mod the doors, happy to stick an external tweater somewhere (ive got some base model mirrors and covers that would make a great mounting location) ;)

Suggestions?

Not wanting to run a sub either, rear fill will be provided with some decent 6x9's :)

I've had JBL, Kenwood, and Alpine coaxials, from about £25 to £50 a pair and always been very happy. Not saying components would not be any better, but for the budget your looking at I'm not sure I'd bother with the extra instal work.

I've got some focal components.

The tweeters are screwed to the a pillars plastic.

Mind you they are run off an amp.

With a 10" sub in the boot.

I've had 6x9s in the past, not very effective.

It really depends on your audio listening habits. To be honest though, I can be pretty fussy with audio quality yet I still use coaxials. My headunit even has component connections but if anything they're just in the way.
