I am interested to know what the forum community would put as a value on a complete 1.9 gti engine/gearbox/ecu/wiring loom would be?

The engine is all original for the car, 107k iirc. It runs spot on, idles perfect, it doesn't use any oil/water and makes good oil pressure.

It would have a new belt kit and water pump, oil filter, oil and air filter. It would come with the air box, standard exhaust system, phase 1.5 wiring loom, BE1 gearbox,

If needed then the hubs and shafts from the 1.9 could be included too.

I've bought a E reg but not sure if it worth the hassle with fixing the rust...

£150 - £250 for the parts you mention.... but haven't seen a 205 yet that has had any "serious" rust....

At least 250 Dan, people forget how good 1.9s are, that's a full package you could slot into a base model and have a beast of a car!

I'd add ~100 for the shafts and hubs

Quite surprised that it would be as low as that! Might stick it all in the garage and let it sit there for a few years, until people start to need these engines!

i do agree that the price of the engines are super low. Try get an engine for something built in 2000 onwards and your looking almost 4 figures! I think the fact you can fairly easily put the mi or gti6 lumps in them make the standard lumps a little not required. you could store it but will need to oil it and turn it over regularly which will become a pain. Why not try get a rolling shell with a mate and make a track car with the 1.9 lump?

The irony is less than 10 years ago a 1.9 engine was worth bugger all, and a 1.6 was even more bugger all. Now people think of keeping them as they are now becoming harder to get. If only I'd of kept them!

Not at all, it still rolls currently, still runs even!

But has nothing inside but a heater box, wiring, and a steering wheel and column.

it does need several chunks of welding, but the floor is all solid, mainly sills and lower quarter, boot floor pulling back and a few patches, and front headlamp panels and maybe inner wing.

not loads really, but more than Dan thinks is worthwhile.

The welding wouldn't be an issue at all, the creased boot floor and possible chassis leg would be though... hadn't known the extent, should have asked at the time, but already looking at buying another GTi hopefully this Friday.... so thanks for the info anyway, min.
