Cambelt Noise After Headgasket Change? Video!

Recommended Posts

Edp

I thought it was a belt rubbing on metal noise at first but then re-read that you'd put that you'd removed the top cover so it can only be a bearing, tensioner or water pump.

Re-using a tensioner, i've done it before when i was being a tight arse but consider whatever is squealing failing and the damage it will cause, its a no brainer for me change it water pump too. Does the tensioner look clean?

Could possibly be too tight too, I did this once and the waterpump sprocket came off and burned a hole in the cam cover, very luckily it stopped in place and the belt rid it, i've got a pic of it. I was checking to see why it was overheating, then it was obvious that the internal pump fin wasn't turning when i glanced down the cam cover and saw this...

update - i think its the metal upper backing plate moving about. added the lower bolt but the backing plate still moves.

should i have a third bolt securing it in the pic below? There appears to be one missing - middle right of pic.

what is the purpose of the backing plate?

That hole is for the top cover has 2 10 or 11mm bolts and nothing to do with the rear cover

Ah gotcha. silly me. any idea what i can do about this noisy f#cking backplate?! it seems to be occasionally catching on the upper pulley too.

If the pulley is catching the backing plate and the plate is nice and flat and bolted up properly then it can only be your endfloat washer needs replacing in the camshaft.

Is the pulley straight or has it got a wobble?

pulley looks ok, backplate is ok when in a certain position but shifts with engine movement causing it to rattle in its new position :s
