I like the look of this one:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/peugeot/205/peugeot-205-gti-------------------1992/2235736

(I have no affiliation with the seller and know nothing further about the car)

Or this one:

But this one seems to have a mismatch dash. Not that, that would put me off it. oil pressure seems a bit low? but mines like that because the oil pressure gauge doesn't work properly. Also possibly resprayed?

I see your point and did not take in to account they mentioned the price. I think i am going to sell the smart buy a reasonable 205 and use the rest of the cash to spend on the 205.

Also don't be in a rush. All the ones for sale at the moment aren't the only ones going to be for sale.

That has to be my worst habbit. if i want something i want it now. on the plus side i am keeping myself busy by rebuilding a 205 lump. might be the completely wrong one for my eventual 205 but hey. They just seem to be really expensive and going up in price in the past 2 weeks!

If I were you I'd also be prepared to travel. You'll soon recoup your time and your travel costs compared to compromising on something because it's local, and then wasting time/money getting it right. If it's not local you might also find someone on here that could have an initial look.

I still think that red one I sent a link to for £2600 looked good - streets ahead of this blue one anyway!

Just noticed that hexhamstu has posted a link to the same car I suggested last week. On the face of it, it looks to be the best around at the moment.

This happened with my current 205. I wanted a 16v. I'd been mulling it over for some time before deciding the best option was to buy a converted 205, and by then things were in a bit of a dry spell. A member on here was selling his for a high price, but on paper it looked great, with lots of work done by DES Developments (no longer trading). I travelled all the way from London to Falmouth. He didn;t want to budge on the price, and I paid full whack as I'm stupid and impatient. It was the most expensive car I've ever bought, by some margin.

It's been the worst of 4 GTIs I've owned in terms of problems. Had I not owned and enjoyed 3 previously I probably would not be the enthusiast that I am today if my first experience had been this current one.

Be patient, look at many before you buy. Don't impulse buy.

I'm also a bit stupid and impatient. I didn't buy the first one I viewed as there are some right off putting dogs about. I did however pay £1k for a car that needed welding to the boot and both inner wings replaced to some extent. Weldings all done now and i'm putting it back together with lots of nice new parts. Hate to think what the eventual cost is going to be but it will be a known solid car for me to enjoy for (hopefully) many years to come.
