In summary, all looks clean from the HPI point of view as far as I can see.

It's basically saying that the car was on J818OVR from January 1992 (I assume when new?) until December 2004 when it was replaced with the personal plate C4RHC. That registration plate has previously been on a car that was written off, namely a Corsa back in November 2002, so unrelated to this car.

In summary whoever owned C4RHC has written off a Corsa and a 328 BMW.

To me this gives a good indication about how the 205 might have been driven in the past!

yes my very worry. surely someone could not have been that bad of a driver. how would they have got insured on a sri then a gti then a bmw sport if there driving habbit was that bad. I think i may walk away from this one. although it is a great deal and saves me having to sell my smart then go buy a 205 it is not worth the risk. a 205 is for life not just for christmas.

To be honest you need to judge each car from what you can see. Ok it might have been thrashed but so will most, pick the best body you can find as the mechanical bits are easy to sort in comparison.

i too do think it is expensive and would be happy to hold out for one at a decent price. For some reason ive got a niggling feeling the car just is not as honest as it looks.

I make regular trips to Eastbourne if you change your mind.

Doesn't look too bad. Always worth a look, the non-sunroof shells are sought after. You can always haggle the price if bits need working.

The number plate might have been purchased by this owner so not necessarily saying they have written off two cars.

Front headlight panel has been replaced, you can see the mark on the left hand side, If the sills have been done it does sound like a rot box, As I doubt there was no protection added on the inside so the rust will have started already

Other parts hanging off it's really a £600.00 car tops

I'd say that's overpriced - even at a glanxce the photos suggest the interior is ropey, engine bay is messed about with, bad-ass exhaust and rear speakers, inner wing has been roughly blown over which doesnt bode well for quality of whatever it's hiding, the panels are multiple shades of blue, and there's no mention of hsitory aside from a recent service.

Oddly worded advert too... driving a Porsche is irrelevent at best (and if it's a Porsche that makes you think a 205 is "blisteringly fast", then it's not much to boast about!).

Its a shed loads of bits want doing and it looks scruffy all over a grands worth

Now I'm not having a go or anything but if you think that is a good car or reasonable priced at £2500 , i would definitely take some one who knows Gti's with you to view one

Check me out I'm on 205 posts

thus means i can never post again

hurrah i hear you cry

Quite often cars will look much better in photos than in the flesh. On that basis, I wouldn't be tempted to even make the trip as that particular one looks bloody manky in the photos! £2.5k? Someone's having a laugh (but they won't be laughing all the way to the bank).

spendo does that mean i can call you lots of names and you cannot post back :-P ?

so i am getting mixed messages here. do i, dont i. Obviously the choice is mine but i have come here looking for advice so can i have a few more opinions please.

In a way i was not going to pay £2500 i was going to swap my smart car for it and him pay £1000 on top. I need to remember its 20 odd years old so it will be a tad tatty and in no way brand new. Just do not want to get it and find its a dud and be put off completely by it.

Having the sills replaced is a bit of a down point to me, that puts me off because i was not there when it was being done and would rather get a slightly rusty one then a hidden rust bucket. the fact he has owned it for 3 years shows its not someone just trying to flog it on i guess. it says it has full service history. ive had that said before and it just a few bits of paper!

I'd be wanting alot more for £2500. I just bought mine for £1900 and it came with jenvey 45s and omex 600 and it's fairly tidy all round. Bit of lacquer peel on the roof being the only obvious downside (obviously theres a few other blemishes here and there someones had a go at the drivers lock for example).

I don't think you're getting particularly mixed messages! There were a couple of people saying it looked ok for a non-sunroof shell (though would be an expensive shell), but everyone else has pretty much said it looks like a shed worth nowhere near asking price!
