Quick Question....ignition Amplifier

iv no spark on my 2.0 8v turbo....does the ingition amplifer need to be earthed??

ive just unplugged mine and plugged it into a lose one and the car still started. so it doesn't need to be earthed. i carry a few spares

for my track car, mine is only the 1.6 gti but should work in the same way as yours.
