Speed Line Alloy Wheels

Recommended Posts

sp_en_ny

Hi everyone, I have a 205 1.9 cti. I believe the alloys that came with the car are the 1.6 14 inch pepper pots. I have just bought a set of 15 inch speed lines but when I went to fit the bolts are different. The speed lines have what looks like a taper where as the originals are flat. Does it matter the tyre shop seem to think it does. If it does matter anyone have any idea where I can get 16 tapered bolts from? Please help I just blew £400 on these wheels and tyres and now can't fit because of a bolt. I rang peugeot and they only have flat bolts and no record of a tapered bolt. I have googled this problem and it seems a common one of which most say tapered are the norm but can find any anywhere!!!! :(

if you have original 205 speedlines then they will be flat seat, as will the vast majority of Peugeot original wheels.

I believe Speedline aftermarket wheels will usually be taper seat, as are most aftermarket wheels.

if your "tyre shop" say it doesn't matter, I would be using a different shop from now on!!

stick a picture up.

i use my 1.6 bolts on my 1.9 speedlines. only difference is the 1.6 bolts are taller so stick out a bit more than the 1.9 bolts.

Thank you for your replies and links, I found an alloy wheel specialist near me, after trying all the bolts they had none fitted, they then looked at the bolts on my old alloys and they were a perfect fit, seems the first tyre shop I went too are clueless and never put the bolt in the wheel properly to begin with hence why they did not sit correctly. Wheels now on and looking nice ! :)

The wheel bolt taper is to ensure that it sits bang in the centre as you tighten the bolts up however if the wheel sits snug on the hub spigot it wont matter

Can we still see a picture of the wheel and bolts? It's pretty impossible for the wheel to not sit correctly with original bolts.

you need to upload it to a site like flickr or photobucket, and post the appropriate link

And how on earth did you manage to do that ? As you can tell I don't have much experience of forums this is the only site I regularly visit.

That looks like someone has previously fitted them using a tapered steel wheel or aftermarket alloy wheel bolt. Quite common I'm afraid. It's worn a chamfer at the edge of the hole in the alloy. Looks like there's still plenty of the original flat face to safely use the original flat, washered bolts tho!
