What Tempted You Away From 205 Ownership?

Recommended Posts

hcmini1989

Ive had various 205s as projects and runabouts for a few years now.The latest being a 205 ex rally car shell witch I bought off a member on here and is now a rolling shell just waiting for my engine block back from the builders .But im so tempted to sell her and buy something JAP turbo to have as a daily and the odd track day .So I was wondering what tempted any of you lot away from the 205 fold ?.

I came from minis (classic) and loved the 205 for its simplicity so any of you recommend me anything .

From 205/309 ownership....

Well the 306 HDI I'm driving is positively refined! So cheap to run, just f'ing slow.

I went german, kept the 80's theme, mk2 golf gti followed by E30 bmw's rear wheel drive. And the noise of a 6 pot. Ahh, now iv got all 3 so best of both worlds. Although the golf is strictly now a track car. And the BM needs more work than the 205!

I went Japanese because I didn't think my boss at the time would tolerate me ringing up saying "ummm my car is broken again, I'll be in later" many more times. I did miss it though which is why I bought my current one.

The only thing that iv thought about other than 205's lately is a Nissan silvia, my mates got a sileighty that's amazing and scared the crap outta me going sideways. For the grin to quid ratio they've gotta be up there with 205's

Agreed they are superb cars when set up correctly. I've had two mint PS13 Silvias in the past and I've noticed the prices folk are asking for shed examples these days is downright crazy. Even the average (rusty) S14/14a has rocketed in price. Personally if I was to get another S-body I'd go for a clean 14a and build from there. You can make them every bit as fun as an S13/PS13 plus the added bonus of a stiffer chassis out the box (without the "JDM Tax").

So true. Im on my second Discovery as need something that can use for work and tow across muddy fields. However I do think it is time I make an effort to either get it Motd and use it or sell. I just think that if I sell it would be letting go and being old:(

I love ps13's and sileightys they're alot cooler than s14's imo but you see amazing looking s-chassis of all shapes as there's so much you can do to them. Love the s15 aswel but they're serious money for what they are like

I had a BMW E30 318is as a daily driver for a couple of years, was good fun to drive. Always kept my 205 rally car though even when I do think of building a E30 rally car sometimes.

I sold my first one as I was fed up with it breaking down and costing me money as I didn't have the time, or know how to fix it then. Went German, have only had German and Japanese since. Still have a German and a jap car as well as the 205....... Sometimes I wonder how that happened.

The words turbo, jap and daily don't work together in a sentence. You can have 2 of those things.

I have luckily several cars so when I do get bored with the 205 GTI, i just change rides for a few days and im all fine again.

Got a;

IH Scout II '76 -- Off road toy

BMW 330xd '10 -- Daily driven

Audi A2 TDI90 '05 -- Daily driven

309 GTI16 '92 -- Acting as a donor to my other rides for now

205 GTI '92 -- Classic fun toy user car

205 DIMMA '89 -- Being bolt & nut restored now si wint be able to use it for some 2years...

Got my 205 GTI 1992 for sale tho, now that I came across a DIMMA so the wife wasnt to happy and wanted me to downsize the parkinglot. My mint 205 GTI with only 2 users and 98.xxxkm will probably go to Poland by the end of this week.
