Sad Day - 205 Goes To Car Heaven

Recommended Posts

Shevy

Today is a sad day, my 205 has gone off to scrapyard heaven, but hopefully in the process a lot of it's parts have and are going on to new homes to keep other 205's on the road and track

Are you have a short service for it? Perhaps a few kind words from a few relatives or friends?

Just as well it had signed its organ donor card!

What scrap yard has it gone to?

I'm just down the road and may need to butcher it ;)

Off topic, but Steven, are you the bloke that helped me out with an expansion tank last year?

Sorry for the late reply Gman but no, that wasn't me. I do drive through Harwell from time to time and see a red 205 just down the road from the pub on the corner. Is that you?

The car is at the breakers in Berinsfield.

Trying to for got about it, it still has. Clifford 600 alarm fitted to it, but again I just didn't have time to strip it properly

That scrapyard any good Kev in terms of prices and selection? Not been there before, but it's always handy finding additional local-ish scrappies.

I was slightly surprised that you still had the car in truth, as it was pretty well on its way to being stripped when I popped over last summer to pickup some bits from you!

Gman's is a tidy black Phase 2.

I often come through Wantage on my way back from work also in a black Phase 2, although mine's somewhat less tidy :(

There's a few 205's I see around the area but I don't know if the owners are on here - there's a white Phase 1.5 that I frequently see driving around the Wantage area and at Haynes, there's a Ph2 Miami Blue I've seen a couple of times, and there's a P1.5 black (or possibly Graphite) that I saw last year but not so far this year.

Looking at your garage, I wonder if the last one was you before your respray?

Anthony, the miami one will be my next door neighbor. He works at Williams in Grove and has had 22 205 gti's in total!

Steven, I know of the red 205. i think the bloke who owns it does a bit of club motorsport with it. He's also got a GT3 RS, E92 M3 and an R1!

I live down the road next to the butchers in Harwell, so you might see it parked up down there if it's not stored at the Wife's farm in the village.

Anyone for a mini meet/burger and pint at the Hart of Harwell one day??

Shevy - I don't think you replied on this, but do you have the dial surround and is it in good condition?

His name isn't Neil is it per chance? Collected some 205 bits from someone by that name at Williams a year or two back.

Happy to pop along for a natter and bite to eat, date dependant of course.

Hi Anthony,

To be honest , the scrap yard is a bit hit or miss, I've managed to get a few parts over the years for my various pugs. I would add it to your list, I find the more breakers details you have the better chance of finding pug parts, I've also managed to get a few parts from Garsington occasionally.

Yeah, it's taken a while to finish stripping, It was more me not wanting to let it go than anything else ! Lol

Gman -

I've got lots of bits , I'm sure the surround is okay.

I'm going to put a post up with pictures of all the parts,

Shevy - let me know when you get a chance to look at it and how much you would like. I can pop over sometime this week if ok with you.

Anthony, his name is Jim, but I think neil works with him at Williams and may well have been the guy that bailed me out when my expansion tank developed a crack the night before a track day.

It's a small world!

Anthony, I often visit Haynes and like you I saw the white 205 in the car park and had a good look round it. The owner is a friend of the guy who sprayed my car at a garage in Didcot. The darker 205 belongs to a guy called Ian (apparently a member here) and he works with my next door neighbour. My car has been off the road for over 5 years so it was unlikely to be me. I have owned the car for 20 years so you may well have seen me at some point but you would have recognised me with those daft wheels. I was young and stupid!

I can thoroughly recommend Dave Freeman a Peugeot breakers in Castle Eaton. He specialises in older Peugeots and has multiple 205's of all phases and just about every part you can think of under the sun. He is very knowledgeable (don't get him talking) and very reasonably priced. His only problem is that he has parts everywhere and can't find anything. I've been there many times and the place is a gold mine.

Gman, I think I've seen your car.

Small world!
