Bonnet Release Cable Issue

Recommended Posts

rikky

I'm trying to work out how my bonnet release cable since refitting seems to be too slack, as if it's stretched. I can only put it down to the routing being wrong, or some clips which take slack out of it by bending it that are missing possibly.

It currently comes out from the handle, through the bulkhead and up to the strut top, wrap around and behind the washer bottle, then goes to the indicator area and takes a route 90º left to the slam panel. It looks right, but doesn't feel right.

Has anyone got any photos showing it's route, or any photos showing where / how it's clipped, so I can improvise and see if I can remove some slack from it? It seems to be about an inch too long currently.

Cheers

have you got the clamp fitted to the underside of the headlamp panel?

No clamps whatsoever. I did see a photo of one on here when looking into the issue, with a little spade coming off it, but even if it was there it wouldn't remove an inch from the length / slack. I can see a little folded bit of the panel where it's got 2 bolt holes in it, but nothing attached there. My cable runs behind it currently so it's under the slam panel

that's probably what's up, you need the clamp to keep it in its place above the headlamp.

It's a sort of metal P clip from what I remember.

From another thread and WP's photo:

Is it part no.9?

Could really do with a photo to see what it looks like and to make something..

Found this from another thread:

Is that it? I've tried a plastic P clip on the turned/fold area near the headlight and it makes no difference. Really need a photo to show exactly where it lives

On the same topic, my release cable deaon't retunr by itself. After opening the bonnet I must push the lever forward, seems like a spring somewhere is broken or disconnected. Where would that spring be in the car? Under the slam panel?

yeah, there's a spring on the underside of the slam panel on the latch, the latch can also seize/get stiff.

bump...

Found this thread, realised it was mine  so thought I'd reuse it

What route does the cable take? Just fitted my new one through the bulkhead so want to position it so it's taut properly. Does it pass round the strut tower and behind the washer bottle? Or does it go past it?

Around the strut tower and behind the washer bottle then clipped to the n/s headlight panel before attaching to the bonnet catch itself, at least that is how it is on mine.
