Water Leak From Hose - Mi16. Need A Solution

Recommended Posts

eastlondonpug

Hi

I have a persistant leak since the last few months at a T junction where 3 hoses meet. This is where a hose coming from the metal pipe meets at a junction with the radiator bottom hose and another (narrower) hose. I have tried to tighten these on may occasions, readjust and use different jubilee clips etc but no use.

Can someone please let me know if I can modify this junction or use the standard 205 gti 8v hose at this junction and somehow get rid of the 3rd narrower hose as I don't think there is a real purpose for this particular hose? Or is there any other solution to this such as a proper hose?

Please let me know as this issue has dragged on.

Thanks

Looks like a nasty bit of bodge crap. Hard to tell from the picture, whereabouts on the engine is it?

Here is a picture of the location marked in red. You will see that the metal pipe to radiator connection is not the normal L shaped elbow but rather has a third hose as per the picture I posted earlier. Thanks

Where does the small hose come from?

I imagine it has been made up as a replacement for a BX 16v lower rad hose which has a take off like that.

Number 6 in the pic.

Thanks for the responses. This hose is apparently connected to the thermostat housing at the other end. I don't understand the purpose really ? Is this a redundant connection? Can I get rid of the hose (replace the T joint with a normal elbow) and make a seal at the thermostat housing?

That outlet is used for the water/oil cooler in the BX 16v. You can replace the thermostat cover with a 205 one with no extra outlet and then replace the lower rad hose with a 205 one also with no extra take off.

It sounds like whoever plumbed your car basically looked at the hoses they had and connected inlets to outlets until it stopped leaking!
