Has anyone polished a windscreen using JEWELLERS ROUGE ? Is it worth giving it a try with a random orbital polisher? What pad did you use soft/medium ?

The windscreens of both our cars (especially the bmw) have lots of scratches which disperse the light during night driving which can blind you.

Thanks.

I have used Autoglym screen polish, works very well by hand. Just leave it on the screen for a couple of hours for best results.

My Alfa had a badly scratched windscreen. I read about Jewellers rouge but in the end I bought an actual glass polishing kit from eBay. I read before using it that screen polishing doesn't work. I also read the typical horror stories - don't try it as you'll make the screen hazy and it'll be worse etc. I was advised not to go to fast on it.

So, used my kit with a cordless drill. I used it, and used it, and used it, and it did.............absolutely sod all.

I might try again on my Volvo, and this time use my random orbital polisher instead.

I find the best solution is for a large foreign object to fly into the screen when you are driving somewhere then pay £50 have a new screen fitted...

I can second the bad experience. Tried it on an A6, and ended up with zero progress and front end of car covered in the resulting paste...

I'd rather the screen didn't break in order to have to be replaced TBH as it is common that fitters don't often do a good job.

People with FSTis have had 3 screens fitted either because the wrong one was fitted initially or didn't do a good job and had to revisit; I don't want to deal with the hassle, the trim having gaps or possible water ingress.

A guy in another forum had someone professionally polish it, cost £70 and took 3.5hrs, he used a mobile scaffolding over the front of the car with a DA polisher to get the job done and the results were good.

The question is where to find someone like that in the south.

In the beemer I don't care so much if it gets replaced (hope my wife is not reading this ;) )
