Mi16 Manifolds - Which One To Use? (Photos Inside)

Recommended Posts

GilesW

I have these two Mi16 manifolds.

Both for an Mi16 in a 205.

Both in pretty good nic (surface rust).

I think the one with the bracing to the headers is a maniflow as sold by them and others. Is it?

But what's the other one?

And most importantly - anyone care to suggest which one to use on a TB'd XU9J4 track car (and why)?

Cheers.

afaik both from the same source, but the second has a flange that will mate to both 1.9 and 2.0 heads.

really?

They're a very slightly different design. The non-gusset one having slightly smaller header pipes, but slightly larger port opening.

Those together with lots of gussets verses no gussets made me think they were made by different manufactures.

Miles

Could be a early one of mine or a very early Maniflow one, You can never tell, Fitment is very close to the bulkhead which is why I redesigned mine to give better clearance, But only on the later ones from around 2006.

The bracing does nothing really as if they do crack its only on the weld in the middle

Ah so the non-gusset you think is an early one and might be a bit closer than the other one (depending on age).

I used that one on my (now dead) mi 205 and it fitted well so hopefully no clearance issues on this car.

Any thoughts on which one you'd use Miles on a circa 200 brake TB'd/cam'd car?

The ports do look surprisingly different, do you have an old gasket you can hold up to them to see how well they match?
