Buying A Private Plate

Recommended Posts

As I never want to sell my 205, I was thinking of treating it to a private plate. It's on an E reg at the moment, so something like "E205 BNR" (my initials) would be good, but on the DVLA website, they don't list "205" as an option when searching. Any ideas how I could go about finding one?

If your 205 was just a little bit newer I'd try to sell you the plate that's on mine

Yeah, if it was 4 years newer I could have the plate off my Elise for it. Wouldn't make much sense, but it would be allowable!

I searched for yrs and yrs for a plate I wanted. I ended up phoning DVLA to see if they could tell me if it was on a car or in their treasury. So, it wasn't on a car, and they arranged it to be put in one of their auctions they do a few times a yr, with a reserve of 350.

Some total ba$tard bid on it, and I stopped bidding at £1500!

Be aware if they do this for you your final price is more than the sale price, Vat etc.

You can register on their site to be able to bid, the auctions are usually 6 days I think.

The reg was DOB 80Y...... I was gutted.
