Ignition Barrel Wiring (Orange/yellow Wires)

Recommended Posts

pa402

Hi all

I'm currently doing a re-shell and moving my standard 1.9 management into a 1.6 shell (that was running a modified Mi16 if relevant).

Whilst putting in my engine loom I've noticed that on the new shell the orange/yellow wires that go from the white connector usually attached to the small plastic panel in drivers footwell to the ignition barrel have been cut off and covered up.

So my question is what do these do and do I need to swap over this piece of wiring from my old car in order to get the new car working.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Paul

You dont go anyhere near the ignition wiring.

Follow the engine loom through the bulkhead to near the lower steering column till you find the brown plugs.

Depending on age, you may find a single 4/5 pin plug, or two larger plugs.

Thanks but I'm happy that the engine loom is all connected up nicely to the two Brown plugs.

But noticed these two wires already cut off and wondered if that was normal or not.

A lot of alarm fitters took the easy option and just wired up immobilisers to the ignition wires so that's probably why it has been cut about, it's normal in the sense that most 205s have had a bodged immobiliser put in by someone claiming to be a professional at some point.

Ah that would explain it - it does seem to have some kind of immobiliser installed! I won't play around with it then.

Cheers

I spent an age deleting old alarm wiring from my rewire, there was absolutely loads of it with all sorts of chocblocks and messy connections. They should be made accountable nowadays for how they did it in the 80's / 90's <_<
