Changing Vac Advance - Any Tips?

Recommended Posts

ATK

Got a new vac advance from Bosch as mine is buggered.

Any tips for changing it over? Can see the screws to remove from dizzy, any need to remove dizzy?

Anticipate getting it off will be easier than getting it back on - it hooks on I assume?

Cheers

It's a bit fiddly hooking the arm back in but not too difficult. I would imagine that it would be quite hard with the dizzy in place due to the location, so best marking its position and removing it so that you've good access.

Yeah looking at it, the dizzy will have to come off.

Is the procedure in this thread correct?

I follow until the piece of copper wire is twisted around the screw - that part is confusing me! Isn't the point of the wire to pull the little tab across so you can hook the vac advance on and then it'll spring back??

This thread makes it look much easier, which is correct?

I refitted mine after a refub.

2 screws attach the VA to the dizzy.

For the life of me I was unable to hook it back on.

A third screw on the dizzy needed to come off for the internal bits of the dizzy to rotate.

Once off rotate the inner bits hook on, rotate back and replace 3rd screw.

Good Luck. ;)

That's no doubt the "correct" way to do it - I'll be honest in that I just poked the arm back in place onto the lug using a small flatblade screwdriver through the same hole the vacuum advance arm goes through in the dizzy body and it worked fine afterwards *shrug*

Just looked at the thread you posted above.

Maybe I did not attach mine properly at all!

The way you and Tom did it makes sense to me...it's the other more long winded way that confuses me a bit towards the end!

Been re-reading those two posts about fitting the vac advance...

I think the longer method is where you don't want to refit the Vac Advance and instead want to lock the toothed bit into place to stop it moving? Do you think my understanding is correct?

Yes .. i did the writing/pics , that was if you've an modified dizzy and you want to lock the vacuum advance permanently . Not a guide to fit a vacuum capsule !
