Power Steering Questions

Recommended Posts

forbeslongden

Hey guys,

My 1.6 GTi is back on the road and when talking to the previous owner, he said that the power steering was removed - I'd quite like to get it put back in, I've sourced the rack and pumps etc..

Attached is a picture, is it going to be easy enough for a garage to fit it back in - assuming the PAS steering rack is still in the car?

Most of that's wrong as its either off a Dirty Derv or mi16

You need the 8v pipes, mounting brackets and the most important thing the steering UJ

ebay I guess

Bit a crude picture but these are all the parts you need for pas on a standard 205

How easy is it to source a 1.6 PAS complete kit, minus the steering rack?

That'd be cool if you do Miles, it might seem a silly question to guys like you in the know but my GTi idles at around 1000 sometimes a little less although it doesn't like any less, will the PAS cause any excessive load on the power and cause it to stall or does it make no difference?

I did retro fit PAS once to one of my previous GTI's and didn't know anything about the cooling pipe at the time so I didn't fit it. Anyway it was fine for years. So if you don't get that bit I would say don't worry too much.

It would be worth checking to see if you still have the PAS rack fitted.

As for the load on the engine no it's negligible I'd say and won't cause it to stall, well not in my experience anyway.

Thank you very much for the advice! I guess the next step is sourcing the right bits!
