Thinking Of Changing Your Aerial Cable?

Recommended Posts

ATK

...done mine today, and was much easier to route it the passenger side.

Couldn't get my old aerial out as it was caught on something behind the dash and was tight in the A-pillars, plus I didn't want to have to take any dash out.

Instead I routed it through behind the glovebox, up the passenger side A-pillar and along. Worked a treat! :) Might help out anyone who intends to change their cable....

Good call, what was wrong with the original one?

Yeah, might be an idea for me to replace mine while the interior is in bits. Never thought about it before but if there's a noticeable improvement to be made then I might as well.

My original cable didn't work at all, must have been a break in the cable somewhere.

Even if not broke I guess a new cable will help radio reception maybe?

I did mine a couple of years ago. I used some thin coax, and it was really easy to do. The new cable just tucked under the headlining really made a big difference.

I'm going to try this my original cable has been severly butchered to say the least the plug is missing and it is far far too short to get into the back of the radio easily.

Do I just peel back the headlining and this pops on ?

Obviously Peugeot don't make the cable anymore so I suppose I would have to get a 2nd hand one?

Pretty straight forward. Buy a cheap aerial from halfords, and throw the aerial away keeping the lead and plug.

Remove the a pillar trim (makes it easier), sun blind and trim around headlining.

Tape the new lead around the old one and pull through.

That was very useful, I will have a go in a few days thankyou.

The problem I have with mine is the cable has been cut so short that i can't get it in the back of the radio

I don't imagine there is much room at all to get the old one out let alone feed in a new one on drivers side.

Much less likely to dislodge / break anything, * touches wood *

I have a few OE aerials in my loft if you want the OE one.

Or alternatively I heard a coat hanger works well. If you plan on going for the rat look. :P

I managed to get my new cable through the old route by tieing strong string on the old lead before pulling it down the a post and then tied the new lead to the string.

It was still an absolute nightmare to get it to run down the pillar without snagging on everything in it's path.

Wouldn't it have been easier to take the A pillar off?

So you didn't have much problem other than getting it down the A pillar?

No real problems other than it catching down the a pillar. I removed the sun visor, allowing the leading edge of the headlining to drop down enough to see the cable and help it through the right route to the a post. Then I slowly pulled it down the a post, there was a lot of to-and-fro to get a clean run but that was it.

Once the cable comes through the bottom keep pulling it straight down rather than across and feed the slack down at the top.
