Decent Alternative To Hammerite?

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

After spending ages repairing and prepping a wheel for paint, I remembered how s*ite hammerite is as soon as I started the first coat.

For anything black I use Simoniz tough black, which IMO is awesome stuff, better than how hammerite used to be, before they made it s*it. But that comes in black, or black. I need something white.

Any other options for a straight to metal, hard wearing, rattle can (or brush on, but streak free) paint?

Ive heard mention of por15, but at ~£20 a can, I could probably just go the powder coat route (~£30 a wheel) only reason I'm not having them powder coated, is that i'm doing it with the tyres on (a regrettable decision)

I've used POR-15 and it is good, but as you say quite pricey. There is also another issue, you will have to top coat it as it does not withstand UV so that's additional expense. If you're not removing tyre's you might be better with traditional primer/colour/lacquer method. I did this to my wheels about 4 years ago with around 6 coats of lacquer and they have stood up very well, plus you can touch up any "parking mishaps" easily.

Tipp-ex is white, and every bit as good as Hammersh*te.

Alternatively, have a look at Rustoleum's range.
