Reebmit 51 4 Cars Posted September 19, 2015 Biggest mistake I ever made was not buying '205 FLY' for £900, I offered £650 and he didnt accept, biggest regret Ive had, so wanted that number, should have offered more! So after a few beers i've just read through my own thread and the trials and tribulations from when i first started with this car. I've learned a lot and looking back over the thread, there's no way i could have done it without sheer determination and the help of people on here, and as mentioned before, Welshpug and also Anthony who have always answered my queries on various threads outwith this one...... plenty beers are due if we ever meet. So here it sit's running as it should, untapping, non-water leaking, with a years ticket on it, and all washed up..... and it makes me happy and secretly quite proud IMO it's a thing of beauty!..... i usually keep it tucked quietly away when not in use. dobboy 231 2 Cars Posted September 19, 2015 I agree Anthony, i told them to sell it for 800, but would take anything for it. Yesterday i went to get an exhaust manifold off a young dude who's breaking a VTS, i must be insane but today i bought the full car off him and collected it. It's rot free, and in pretty good shape, and black. Refurb'd wherls etc. only thing missing is the interior and an induction kit. The beam is goosed and it needs a new set of battery terminals and maybe battery. It's also got two exhausts poking out the back. Got it for £350 So last night, i've stripped the cage, seats, and exhaust from the red VTR and the deal with the GF is "one in, one out" so the red one is getting scrapped. She actually took the news quite well! Lol So today, i built the front running gear up again on the VTR so it can roll for the scrappy, and tomorrow i hope to swap the beams over...... Ah, i might wait and solid mount it. It's like feckin arnold clarks here, 2 x 205's, 2 x Saxo's, my Audi, and my van......and a heap of parts. My neighbours must love me! dobboy 231 2 Cars Posted September 25, 2015 The 2nd Saxo (VTS), bar a few dents it's in good/very condition, bargain at £350 i think. Check out the exhaust(S)! I've done a bit of work on it this week. It's up an running nice first click, although first time a little smokey and idling problems, i let it sit up to temp a few times and it's on the mark now. Rear beam removed from red one, cleaned up and painted, and got GrpA mounts pressed in today and managed to fit the beam myself (Struggle!). 3.5 hrs to remove an exhaust bold from DP to system, and ended up drilling holes through two flats of the nuts, but it's off. The saxo is quite like the 205, and what i find a bit interesting is that on the old saxo (red one), on the bulkhead underlay it says "205 - 5kg" I've also found 2 additional ECU's/controllers, which i don't know what they do. One in front of gear stick, and one (which was disconnected and now connected) inside the NS wheel arch. Any ideas anyone? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

All brakelnes stripped off ABS removed, front end running gear off it, GrpN gear linkages fitted, and first coat of paint on the cage. Few problems found, 2 shaft gaitors burst, but more concerning is there was very little/no oil in the Gbox. i've got spare shafts and a spare box so think i should probably swap the box before building the car back up. I've had the plate up on eBay a couple of times and had a few watchers/enquirers so there's definitely still a market, dunno if anybody will ever give me my £1800 asking price though Dobboy, she's still looking gorgeous! (can't get out in my 205 on dry days cos i've boxed it in in my garage with two feckin saxo's) Not had much free time but have managed to do a bit on the black one. Had a few donations (brand new/VGC) and splashed out a bit, which wasn't in the plan . Fitted: Good driveshafts Gbox seals New Koni front dampers and unknown springs Rear beam off the red one, and fitted GrpA kit at the same time......c/w (rusty as feck) Spax adjustables but they function and will do for now Removed ABS stuff and ran new brake lines, still to do my bias valve Calipers F and B Braided flexi lines New Brembo discs EBC Bluestuff pads to the front, standard to the back New TRE Poly bushes on front WB's that came in the boot of the black one, and new ball joints. Cage Vibra Tech competition engine mount kit...... very nice piece of kit! Quickshift stick, and a linkage shift kit too!....... it's now a quick shift , (the Costella? QS stick on it's own wasn't very quick at all.) I've also had a few shots of a 106GTI Rally car on two tracks recently, (who's diff is currently in at Quaife, and incidently he's getting fecked about by them). TBH i'm thinking this Saxo is going to be a disapointment on the speed front. Last time i had my 205 on KH it and i felt great, and since then i've had a shot of Malc's SC'd 16V, the saxo is just going to feel poor. Anyway, I noticed the 106 had very little grip when on throttle, but strangely i didn't really feel it understeer much (not like my pre Quaife 205), i could only tickle the throttle leaving bends, and was more conscious of the throttle than the track ahead.........even though the 106 was on new AD048's, and after two half track days they were truly shredded/dead. So, as a fall back, a guy i know who has a fully forged Saxo engine with a full Rotrex kit in his garage, who's looking for a Saxo track car has more or less said he'll take my Saxo when i finish it if i don't want it, on the understanding he'll reimburse me everything i spend and a few hundred quid for my work. (And i also know a guy who has a good 205 16v'r track car he's wanting rid of that i can have) So, after the shot of the 106, knowing an open diff is sh1t, (compared to the Quaife in my 205) i started looking for a diff ......... and Swordfish on here has a MA TranX diff/box i'm likely to buy, (and the Saxo guy above knows this and say's yeah he'd need one anyway) so i'm keen to get it, especially knowing it's money i'll hopefully to be reimmbursed if the Saxo get's punted.). WTF am i like?! Anyway, I've now got Saxo/Cobra seat mounts, therefore can fit the seats from the red one...... I'm still fecking waiting on the Red car's books, after eventually running out of patience with DVLA, and sending off for new Docs two weeks ago...... today i've recieved the SORN confirmation, so hopefully the books aren't far away and it can GTF out my garage. As means of torture/pay back, i might cut a section of roof off it to use on the Black one to blank the sunroof. Lot's of hours working in the cold and often rain with Long Johns and thermal gear on, and 110V lighting set up. dobboy 231 2 Cars Posted October 30, 2015 Another thing to add, my exhaust manifold is a 4-1, which sits lower to the ground than a standard 4-2-1, which has resulted in the lower strutt brace i have fouling the exhaust...... i contacted C Satchwell, and his design will only buy me about 10mm, which i don't think will be enough, so i'm going to have to get somebody to modify mine and hope that i don't bottom out and rip my inner wings off going down Duffers at KH. dobboy 231 2 Cars Posted November 2, 2015 Fitted one of my seats and tried it out with helmet on. Is's a bit of a squeeze getting in and out, and I feel like the hunchback of Notre Dame when sitting in it. I think I need to lift the front end of the seat up so that the head rest part of the seat goes back, so my helmet doesn't touch the seat. Also modified my gear stick. On these you can get quickshift via a stick, or via putting an adapter type thing on the linkage. With the stick only, it wasn't very quick, so I fitted the adapter on to the linkage again, which made it quick. The stick was quite low so I lengthened it, and now it sits good but is back to around a standard stick's throw..... which is ok. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Worse case the car rolls and goes upside down, and i'm confident the cage (which isn't scaffold btw) will hopefully handle it ok. I would maybe see your point if it never had buckets/harnesses, but i wouldn't fancy being in a roll in a saxo or 205 without any sort of cage, whilst being held in a fixed position. I couldn't change the direction of the bolt at the top as i had the lot in before i realised it would be better the other way, but i've got a dome to put on the end! An uncaged car with fixed buckets and harnesses is bloody dangerous in a roll-over situation as you stand a very good chance of breaking your neck or dying if the A-pillars collapse. It makes my blood run cold when I see people doing it, particularly in Saxo's as I've seen first hand how a roll will collapse the roof (my then girlfriend rolled hers and probably only lived because she was short and her passenger because the seat collapsed and threw them into the back of the car - I could barely get in it at the recovery place to remove her personal possessions as the roof was a straight line from the bottom of the A-pillar to the top of the B-pillar). From that point of view that cage is probably safer than not having one at all, but I really don't like the look of those A-pillar kink/bends. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It's not welded at the top of A pillar, it has a tab welded to it that connects/slides into two tabs on the piece that runs accross top of windscreen. Some OMP cages i've seen are done the same way. It's single piece from floor/foot area up towards hoop. It might not be the best cage in the world but i'm fairly sure i'd rather have it in than out in the event of an incident, and it's quite heavy duty when you feel the weight of it. Bias valve fitted GTI wheel fitted A little incident we had when welding a linkage ball on to the new box, which had been given a wipe with panel wipe ! (not my idea!), captured on GoPro, taking stills every 60's. The fire actually got a lot worse but luckily there was a fire extinguisher at hand. It seems to be coming together.
